Maybe the mute section has blown components? I had an RZ800 repair on this forum, a very long one, that had this issue(did not have sound at all). Tjmotter helped me to diagnoze. I have found a lot of transistors that were bad. Also the main Ic and some opamp ics as well. Not sure if these new units are similar to the older ones, I haven't seen one yet.

The pointy glass on the VFD is not broken off by any chance?

These boards are scares, you have to check Ebay often, sometimes somebody sells quite many of them, sometimes there is nothing available.

Your only chance is a board. Nobody is selling these chips separately, only manufacturers of receivers. I'm not sure which one, but if I remember correctly, Tj said that the TX-NR838 has the updated chip. It is hard to come by bad HDMI boards.

You are correct.

Check your firmware versions and if you see the question marks, then mess with the DSP.

Did you check those two caps for short? You say that you have another receiver. Take one cap out, and measure it.

Projector turned on as it should, light did not even blink and it showed the lamp error. Found with a Flir gun shorted SMD capacitor on the ballast controller board. The capacitor is located under a 73832 IC closest to the board edge. Since I couldn't find the right value, which I believe is 4.7uF, I have soldered a 10uF one, and removed the other capacitor that was soldered in parallel. Projector is working great again, yeah. Great purchase for $60.

Jozsi(magyar?), you should open a separate thread with your issue.

A few years ago, I have added a laptop cooler fan in there, that the RPMs can be adjusted. Made a wire harness from the fan to the TV's USB port. This way, it was starting and shutting off together with the TV.

I'm happy that you(Tod) are still around. We need your expertise around here. I kind of swayed away from repairs myself too, but I'm still around and I still have an 810 with cracked mainboard(amp).

From my experience, which is not a lot, when I see question marks, I reheat the DSP, and if the IC is still good(a lot of them were recalled, if you are unaware of that), it should revive the IC. On Aliexpress most of them are fakes and won't work. Todd was buying broken boards from newer receivers(newer model ICs did not have this issue), and using original newer ICs. He was reballing them.

To me it sounds like bad solder at the DSP.

I had one with bad mute section, IC and twenty some transistors(hard to find them) replaced. Todd helped me with that repair. He rarely visits here. I believe he is done with this hobby.

Usually the BGA ICs have the solder ball issues.
