Swapped out all the capacitors on the SMPS today, and found a few that were questionable. So far every Elna capacitor ive removed has had an ESR way above spec, and two capacitors on the sub board were leaking.

Newly re-capped SMPS is in, voltages are far more stable.

Astig; R763138 8x 47uF 63v 4x 10uF 63v 1x 470uF 35v 1x 470uF 100v Also has two jumpers, W1 and W2, what do they do? Later -06 revision swaps 4x 10uF 63v to 100v Just swapped out some capacitors on this older revision astig, a few of the 47uF 63v were starting to get green legs, and smelled of leaks when desoldering. Brand and type of these was United Chemicon KME.

And thanks back for your kind words. I would say rather holder than user, my 909 are currently stored I live in Germany. BTW the list is about the orginal caps Barco used, not the caps I ordered.

Where did you found replacements for C220 and C221 ? Those are soldering-star type caps and no so simple to find. Or you just ordered radials ? I also send you a private message.

Alright, thanks for the pictures. It is clear to see the polarity orientation on the PCB. I'll order them too.

Barco used standard radial caps (solder joints seems to be untouched, see pics), but the layout is for star type. There's no problem with using standard radial (7,5 mm lead spacing), fits perfectly. What is the year model of your set and which revision of the power supply? Both mine have the other style capacitors there, i didnt change those or the 100uF clip in.

What type did you order? I used all Panasonic FR and FM in the SMPS, the difference is pretty significant to the way it was. For one it had stopped working properly, it would show a fan fail error after 30 seconds and then shut down, found the 2 470uF 50v capacitors related to this on the sub board were leaking. Secondly, the voltage drift of the 17v line was huge, more than 1v between a black screen and full white, now it is around 0.3v at the most. Its made quite a difference to the stability of everything else too. Welcome to the forum

Hi, I recently ordered new caps for my SMPS1, here's my list: Funny it lists those brands, both mine have variations from that, one even had Panasonic FC for the 1000uF 50v. This is a great forum here, we actually do real repairs and tests as well as talk freely about it without having our posts deleted or being told "i know what is wrong with it, send me the boards and ill test them for you"... The service manuals and TSBs are in the manual section too.

Hi Case, All my 909 are late 2003 build. They were in service till end of 2008, running 8h a day. Several boards got exchanged/repaired/upgraded, so it's a mix of newer and older boards. Since my 909 never ever will run 8h/day again, I just orient on the standard programm off the supplier. I use mainly Panasonic FR, Chemicon LXS and KXJ for >=400V, plus some FC for values which are not covered by the FR series respectively the supplier don't offer. Never had a problem with my 10 SMPS1, all working flawless, but I didn't check for ripple/noise. Barco seems to changed the star type to normal radial type on the newer boards with R761342 7-xx. Some pics of the different SMPS1 I got here:

Now working my way through the 919. I guess we need to remember a lot of these projectors have over 20,000 hours on them. The control board on my 919 has clocked over 50,000 hours. Its the next board I will recap.

I didnt check ripple either, but i was getting significant volt drop on the 17v line as load increased, which is now down to around 0.3v after replacing capacitors.
