@ Case Do you know if the circuit in the quad is the same as the circuit diagram I can't make it out from the photos ,seven diodes and seven caps? I always presumed that it was x4 but looking at the circuit diagrams it is x7 and not x4(quad). If it's x7 the voltage on the caps is rougly 5kv and 10kv (max reverse value) over the diodes so the caps being 10kv is much better then if it would be x4.(roughly 8,7kv over them) Of course the more voltage they can take the better but higher voltage caps means they become bigger, more expensive and a lot more difficult to find.

hey all, i remember reading a post from the guy on the other forum who rebuilt quads; apparently the first cap in the series is smaller than the rest, eventually causing them all to fail? not just the silicon becoming conductive. he said it was almost like barco did it deliberately (to generate some spare parts revenue?)

Ive got one apart on my coffee table, theyre all physically the same size, so id expect theyre all phyically the same. What would be good is if the transformer was in a separate box, would make replacements easier in the future... Possibly!

The first step is done. I organized new sealings, vanes and oil for my pump. Not that easy for a 30 years old machine. Yeah, it's not the age, it's dissatisfaction of companies to service privat persons. Anyway, next step is to design a vacuum chamber for vacuum potting. This video demonstrate process of vacuum potting very good. Special silicon seems not be needed. Most addition crosslinked silicons have a dieletric strength about 20 kV/mm. Just have to find the right viscosity and hardness. Paper about potting/sealing. If there are >15 quads it will maybe worth asking directly cap manufacturer. But for now reps. the prototyps just any caps who fit specs will be good engough.

Hopefully you will have success there and itll be worth all the effort

Hi guys, little progess. The vacuum pump takes more time than I thought. Whatever, through the lack of small high voltage capacitors, splitting transformer and multiplier would makes things much easier. The transformer stays in his old position right next to EHT board and the multiplier moves at the side from the brojector. At the side should be engough room for 7x 25x90 mm (DxL) caps. Also the old case doesn't have to be recycled. Makes things even more easier. Transformer and muliplier could be connected through (shielded) high voltage cable. Any arguments against splitting transformer and multiplier?
