Hey Case
I will have to change fluid in a tube in the near future ,I want to use propylene glycol this time, so for how long are you using it and do you use it pure are do you mix it with glycerin or other stuff?

Hey Case I will have to change fluid in a tube in the near future ,I want to use propylene glycol this time, so for how long are you using it and do you use it pure are do you mix it with glycerin or other stuff? I just used it straight, no issues so far after 6 months or so. I dont have enough to do all my tubes, so ive gone with the Ice Clear and will put it in all 3 tubes. Im going to install a newer red and a newer blue at the same time, my red is fine but ive got a much newer red, my blue is becoming a bit uneven in terms of light output and has 23,500 hours on it now, although almost impossible to see the wear on the tube face. The green has the propylene glycol and was installed brand new, 358 hours on it now. All info ive received suggests i should get slightly sharper optical focus with the Ice Clear.

GregsTV is also using propylene glycol as far as i know, and Keith will be receiving 1 gallon of the Ice Clear i purchased.
Between original ethylene and the propylene i cant really see any difference.

Thanks Case , could not find the ice clear in Europe and the amount from USA is to large , no problem finding propylene glycol but I worry about the reaction with the big seal (bellows?) over time ,they can't be replaced if things go south. Years ago I did some experiments with water as coupling fluid in an ampro projector and the seals swell up to twice there size .

I havent looked at that yet, cant see it being an issue though. I have 12 complete LC housings here, so i doubt ill ever have a concern with that. When i remove the tubes for swap over i will check that green housing and see how it has held up to the propylene, and i will be refilling it with Ice Clear prior to re-install. The other tubes here are all still filled with original ethylene.
Ive ordered two syringes to pump the Ice Clear in with, which should be pretty easy as ive read its thinner than glycol.
When i filled my green with the propylene it was a real pain in the arse, and messy. This lead to the aquadag paint coming off the tube bell and i had to rebuild that with copper tape, which did the job quite fine anyway.

Its much easier and no mess.

Yeah i fill them to a point that way, but the final fill i put in via the fill screws.

Ice Clear is here, ive filled one of my blues ready to go in, will need to get the red and green out of the set to fill my red, i need the c-element from it, and the green will be getting re-used after the propylene is removed and replaced with Ice Clear.
Got a set of modded neck boards from GregsTV that ill be throwing in at the same time.

Took the whole set apart, all tubes are out, washed the c-elements, washed out the green because itll be going back in, ill fill the red and green later in the day after a sleep and leave them sit for a few hours to make sure there are no leaks.
The blue has not leaked yet after almost 12 hours, so its good to go.

Fresh water from the garden hose.
Its all back together, all set up, it is a bit sharper.
