Hello, Long story short, bought this unit of ebay with no sound and network issue. I've purchased and fitted brand new chip 830K013DZKB4, but still get no audio. I believe but not 100% sure here, new chip needs to programmed now.See photo no.3 here: Onkyo TX-NR609 I'm not sure what that string of question marks means. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

About the only thing you can try is to update the receiver. It may or may not work. But you must do the update using a USB thumb drive. Do not try to update over the net. Download this file: Onkyo TX-NR609 and extract the 3 files to a clean thumb drive. Then download the attached file for instructions to follow for USB update. Let us know how you make out. onkyo FW Update TX-NR609.pdf (231.01 KB)

Aye, tried that already. See photo number 1, network and firmware update options are grey out and can't be chosen Also, I get no LED activity on my usb drive and the front display just shows "Now Initializ" and that's it.

Did you first make sure that HDMI control(RIHD)is turned off? Did you then make sure Zone 2 is off? Make sure nothing is connected to ethernet port? Did you then insert the USB drive with the receiver off and then turn it on, then select USB input source, and did the display then say "Now Initializing"?

Hi.Yes, I've done all that last night. It looks like firmware in this unit can be upgraded in four different ways: usb, network, s/pdif port and ,t/srv (maybe it's a serial port?)To see those options, follow the key combination to display DPS chip firmware(display+ power) and then hit Return button. Now use left/right arrow keys to choose between ALL,VMPU etc. or up/down keys between upgrade ways.

I looks like NAND memory (TSOP48) needs to be programmed not DSP IC. Firmware stored in it, or memory chip itself could be faulty too. Apparently, DSP communicates with NAND. The string of ?? may indicate lack of that communication. Either way,It's beyond my knowledge.

I have got one of these, with the same issue. Reflowing did not do anything. The question marks, are there when I try looking at the firmware version. Did you manage to repair this receiver? I have looked up the Onkyo free repair site and it shows, that my receiver had been repaired already.

Version B. Onkyo repaired it and I still have a B version, that is really weird. The good IC, is the version D. I'm thinking, that maybe I have a corrupted firmware maybe, or somebody applied the wrong firmware.

I have looked up a programmer, that would work with this nand flash and it is available, on Aliexpress. It is called Proman, it is $108. The biggest problem is, the bin file. We need a working HDMI board and we need to remove that nand flash, to be able to read the firmware off of it.

I have a working .bin file mate. I use NandFlash lite or similar name, google it.It's a simple and small programmer but it does the job well.

I've sent many 609's for the repair here in UK, and every single unit came back to me with ver.D IC.I would say, flashing dsp chip will fix it

The DSP chip needs flashing? I thought, that is not needed. At least on badcaps forum, that I have read. I can't find anything, about NandFlash lite. TNM5000 shows up.
