I have picked up this projector, from a service center, for $20. I have never worked on a projector before. Everything seems to work, except video on video inputs. What I mean is, that none of the video inputs work. Only one thin horizontal line works, at the top. The image in that line, seems like it is doubled side by side, like a 3D side by side image. Sound works, there are no error lights on. If I put a picture on a USB stick, it shows nicely on the whole screen. So it must be something, with the video processing, that is common to all video inputs. Any help, would be appreciated. Projector, did not come with a remote. I couldn't find a service manual either.

It is good that you have a menu. Try doing a master reset first.
Select: menu, then Reset, then Reset All.

I have done that already. Now I have taken the board out, to take some pictures.

When you took the picture of the menu above did you have a signal running to that input at the time?

That is the seller's picture. What I have noticed that, if I have signal, I can't bring up the menu.

I have started inspecting the board, but I did not see anything obviously wrong. I have also started identifying ICs on the board. Unfortunately, I can't find any info, about most of the ICs. Most likely, they are proprietary Epson Ics. There is a ST FLi32626H (Single-chip enhanced LCD TV controller), Lattice LFXP2-5E-5FTN256C (available at Digikey), 2 x Epson EV0805SA, Epson EV2006XA, EPSON E07140K0B, 2 X IDT V105ADAG/ZA51331J, PANASONIC MN864773AKE (HDMI), TEXAS INSTRUMENTS TMDS261B (2 in 1 HDMI switch). These are some quick phone pictures. In the weekend, I will take some proper ones, outside at sun light and with camera and stand. Attachments:

Mastertech, why did you ask that question about the menu? This really puzzles me, how come I can't bring up the menu, when there is a signal. Those to side by side bars, show a clear crisp image, which is the real image that should be there. What can cause such an issue, that the rest of the image is gone? BGA soldering issue, from to much heat and cool downs? Should I try heating, some of the BGAs up?

I have programmed my Logitech Harmony Touch remote, to be able to control the projector, but projector did not react to any of the commands. It seems like, the IR does not work either.

I asked about the menu because that picture did not show any input information. I was curious if the projector was at least recognizing an input. Does it have a menu without a signal?
When you have an input signal the menu usually matches that signals resolution to superimpose it over the image. So your menu may be there just distorted like the image.
If you have a menu without a signal I would try going into the menu and make sure any 3d stuff is turned off and turn off any other menu selections that may affect the image. Or set some settings to auto.
I would not go heating up anything just yet. We need to gather as much info as we can. Projectors are much different to work on then audio. The units symptoms can lead you to the problem sometimes better then just poking around.
Test for standby voltage at the IR sensor. Do you trust that the remote even has the correct software for this projector?

It has menu without signal, I have disabled everything 3D. The remote works with my other devices, but I can't be sure that Logitech programmed it with the right codes. When I have punched in Epson 3020, in the drop down menu showed up the full name of the projector. I assume than, that the right codes are in it. I don't see any option, to try different codes. I'm just wondering, that maybe I need the factory remote, to be able to do some changes, like split screen, 3D modes, Aspect ratio, etc. If I reset everything to factory, than whatever setting is set by the remote, the image should go back to a normal image, right? I have traced some inputs, component, composite, VGA are going into the SLi IC(the one, that has that round metallic spot on it). I used to repair LCD/LED TVs as well. I have just stopped, because they are not worth repairing anymore. The new ones, got way to cheap. Planning to make a home theater in my garage, and I was hoping that I could repair this projector.

It would be nice, if I could see blown parts, like in the Sony projector. By the way, my Epson uses the Same Texas Instruments HDMI IC, the other one is a Panasonic one. I have looked around again, just in case if I have missed something previously, but unfortunately I did not find anything obvious. I have tried measuring some N4 transistors(right lower corner-orange arrow), and they show some weird measurements.

Maybe they are zener diodes?

You seem intent on thinking there is a bad component somewhere that is causing your problem but I am no where convinced your problem is even internally related yet. And not having the remote complicates this even more. The remote has an AV mute button to blank the image and menu so without that remote you do not know if that simple selection is what is causing your issue. As you already said a USB image displays properly so you know it can display a complete image.
So I cannot help you in the direction you have chosen to take. If you want to put it back together and get a remote I can then try and help.

You may be right, but the reason I'm thinking that most likely is something wrong on the board, because I have purchased it from a repair shop and they suggested, that there is a video problem and most likely needs a new motherboard. As I keep "using" it, trying things out, I feel the same way as you, that nothing actually seems wrong with it. I don't understand, why the Logitech remote, does not control it. An original remote, it is like $60. To much. Maybe a 3010 remote would work too? I see some, for a bit over $10.
