I'm new to this, but Onkyo doesn't update different areas(ICs) with the new firmware, that is why it has multiple files in the firmware? Maybe only one IC has an issue, and it stops the update process at that stage. Which IC is updated last?

Maybe it is not soldered in 100%?

i have checked every solder joints for continuity and everything is fine these are the options available under update
usb-all
usb-dsp
usb-osd
usb-vmpu
usb-da830
usb-mmpu
usb-work
everything completes 100% but only dsp is stuck at 70% failing with error 1-83!

There are two DSP's in this design. I am now starting to think that the issue is actually with the 2nd DSP. The Service Manual specifically calls out that the 2nd DSP firmware chip is the "slave" while the 1st DSP firmware chip is the "master". Previous generations of Onkyo (NR709 for example) would split the firmware update into two parts: 1 for each DSP. Since we don't see an update option for 2nd DSP, it could be that it is the source of the issue. Note, I am working on an RC370 (similar to an NR709) with this same issue (2nd DSP not booting) and am finding that the 1st DSP seems to be working properly but the I see ? for firmware levels on both. I confirmed that the 1st DSP works by installing the firmware for an NR609 which only has 1 DSP. As soon as I did this, the system would boot up properly and all speakers worked. The downside is that the design of this system requires 2 DSP's to handle the extra work caused by Audyssee XT32 so this isn't a good long term solution. In your case, I don't know if this means that Q3404 (2nd DSP), or if Q3401 (it's EEPROM), if there is a power issue to this chip or if something else is broken between DSP1 and DSP2. I have a programmed EEPROM for an NR646 we can try if we can figure out how to get it to you.

Can you check to see if you have 3.3V at TP3430? (test point 3430).

assuming the marked zone as test point 3430 i placed positive probe at the tp and negative at units body and got a reading of 3.3v is it correct?

yes, that is correct. please check the three coils directly beneath that point to make sure you have 3.3V on each side of each of them. You should also look for coil L3407 and make sure it has 1.0V on both sides of it and L3406 should have 1.1V on each side. Onkyo uses these coils as a fuse so it is important that none of them show an open circuit.

l3407 1.02-1.03v l3406 1.03-1.04 v couldn’t find three coils specify the numbers ive attached pic

These are the three coils you need to test. Since you have already confirmed that you have 3.3V, you only need to confirm that each of these coils measures close to zero ohms.

all three coils measured 1.3ohm ((kept meter pointer at 200 ohm)) without power after powering they measured around 1.6-1.9 ohm i got 2.1-2.3 reading also
