Hello, I got the newer SEMU-II from Hulio, and here is what I get : The only thing that the manual says about this is "Contact your Barco Service Center"... My older SEMU is PCB v3 : Having the last BG808S firmware 7.61, I don't think there is something possible to do... Robin

I would say though that I have not seen that message at any time as it either worked or did not. Try just the SEMU-II board with no connection to the driver board. Could you post a picture of the controller with the SEMU board in place. A clear image if you could.

I had RWI 5.06 mounted, I switched to 5.09 then 5.10 unfortunately with same result... Running the set with the new SEMU in place, and video cables going to it disconnected, the message is the same in the menu (I switch the 720 input board with another one that has the "no SEMU" straps in place)
I will test it in the other 808, that has an apparently index 3 controller. Robin

Tested without the little sub-board, same behavior, same message. I think that this sub-board is normal, as I79 is missing on the Index 2 controller, then present on the Index 3 one. So they likely corrected an issue and added the 74AC74 that way before implementing it properly on the controller board. (I have the index 0, index 1, index 3 schematics but not the index 2) Index 3 : So, I tested in my Data 808S, firmware 7.41, with an index 3 controller, no luck. Both SEMU aren't detected at all. Being RWI 5.09 or 5.10. Aren't they compatible with the Barco Data and needing a Barco Graphics ? If I put an IRIS board, even after the SEMU, the IRIS is well detected. km987654, do you still have your SEMU setup ? In case you can look at what PCB ID you have, in the menu ? Robin

At least, the newer Contrast Modulation module is working well : And unlike I said earlier, it is no effet without the soft edge module... the 909 service manual says the soft edge connection is optional but not that much. Robin

Robin Hi Robin The SEMU won't show up in the Menu if you use earlier firmware than 7.61. I can only tell you that I have, right now, the same physical setup you have minus the interesting controller and the SEMU is recognised and shows up in the menu and you can operate the menu items. So perhaps there is an issue with that SEMU board or, as mentioned, your controller is different somehow. Do you have another suitable controller without the daughter board? and can you test the SEMU in another Barco (909 if available)? Just noticed an earlier image of a bunch of controllers and you have a suitable controller without the daughter board so try that one.

In fact it is that one, that is in the D808 ; I don't have another one. Sure I would have tried in that case.
But as it is a Data, it doesn't startup properly with the Graphics firmware.
To my knowledge, to do so, the content of the EEPROM IC6 should be erased/changed, so I'll have to try that...
To test in the 909 I need the mini-board to attach it to the controller, I don't have one here.

Hello all, Some good news So I've changed the content of the controller EEPROM IC6, with the content from a Graphics, and now it is able to start-up properly with the BG808S v7.61 firmware ! I've put it on support in case I needed to revert or test another change, but I'm happy as this is first time I unsolder such SMDs. I had to remove the quad decoder & LIDO module as the video driver with contrast modulation don't fit physically well together... And now... let's test the 909-style soft edge-module on all that And that does works !!! So, indeed the controller with J20 totaly integrated is required. And also Graphics 808S model is required too as 7.41 is the last firmware for a Data 808S model. I'll continue to finish the upgrade as a Graphics of this one (tube mounting, video amp). Robin

So as I'll forget 3D for this project, I got a very nice set of P16LXW tube, so I retubed my first set with these : I had to turn the G2 near minimum, comparing to the previous one, they are bright However, I reach the maximum on focus setting (99), and can't move back the focus coil enough to solve that. The tubes are not in fault, but as I've put the 120MHz video amp, its support is interfering here. There is very little play left. I think I'll cut some back of the focus coil (plastic support part)

This still may not solve the problem. You may need to have look at how your CPC magnets are setup.

Hello Keith,
Not finished, but just on hold. Not withdrawn at all. I focused on other activities while the weather is good, I'll be fully back to it during Autumn. The projection room at my friend's, isn't ready at all also, and won't be soon.
Last thing I did was trying to attach these video amp, to a large horizontal bracket ; tried to cut it my (home-made) CNC, but failed as it is too weak to work aluminium (I didn't made it for such work, only PCB drilling). As is, these video amp are too loose, they fall easily. Still wonder how I'll attach them ; keeping the blue and red tube centering movement. I'm probably overthinking.

Robin Good to hear that you are still working on this Robin. I have also been guilty of overthinking solutions. Einstein said it best "the simplest solution that solves the problem is usually the best" something I usually fall back on.

Hello all ! Then, finally I'm back at working on this. A quick recap on where I am :
| Barco n°1 (Red BG808) | Barco n°2 (Black BD808S) | Upgrade convergence as S model | Done | Not needed | Upgrade SMSP/2 and H Shift bords to S model | Done | Not needed | Upgrade input board to S and SEMU compatible | Done | Not needed | Upgrade to "J20" controller | Done - but not latest version | Not needed | Upgrade software to BGS/2 v7.6.1 | Done | Done | Install IRIS option | Done | Already present | Install contrast modulation option | Done - 909 version | Done - 909 version | Install Soft Edge | Done - but 808S version | Done - 909 version | Install BCL Link | Done | Done | Retube with mint P16 | Done | Already got them | Install scheimpflug supports | Already present | Ongoing | Upgrade video amp to 120MHz | Done | To be done | Support the video amps | Ongoing | To be done | Other issues | Menu PLL/sync issues | Glycol leak - ongoing | Cabling/Testing BCL | To be done | To be done | Paint case (mat black ?) | To be done | To be done |
I should share a video amp support in the next days - if it works as intended. Started to mount the scheimpflug on the second 808, but, seen a few drop of liquid after the red tube removal... Yes you guessed, it's a glycol leak, surprise. A least I've seen it at the right moment, it just started. Seem the factory seal around the tube was not perfect, and was not as regular as the two other tubes... So i'm working on releasing the tube from the housing. I've fresh propylene glycol still left, the old one just started to have fungus (very light but still). Also, my second set of 120MHz video amp are 180° reversed, so I'll have to mount the tube upside/down - I hope they'll fit with the HT lead downside... Will see. To be continued. Robin
