Great story. I have repaired quite a few receivers myself, but I have kept the repairs, at the amp repair level. Maybe a bad power supply relay, or a bad fuse in the main transformer. Lately, I had a couple HDMI issues. My first few receiver adventures, on the HDMI board. I have tried replacing a DSP on a 609, but most likely, my soldering skills weren't up to the task. I have just quit on that one. It is a shame, that all that knowledge will be gone. You are saying, that there is a chance that, if I replace Q4001, the receiver it may start?

yes, that is what I am saying. If Q4001 can stop causing the amp to shutdown, you have a possibility that the amp will start up.

Just joined this forum today and I was glad to find it! I recently bought a TX-NR 609 thinking that I should be able to get it working by replacing the 100 MFD caps (from what I had read on many pages that I came across before this).
My problem is that there is no audio from any of the inputs (even after the 6 caps were replaced) and the speaker matrix does not show up on the display. The speaker relays do not come on-obviously. I read Todd's many comments and I see that he is well experienced in the subject and hope you can help me with some advice.
1. Except for the DTS chip on the HDMI board, is there any other area I should check before attempting to re-flow the chip? 2. The chip I have is D830K013BZKB4. I noticed that you have recommended to install D830K013DZKB4. Is there a reliable source you can recommend? 3. As I have seen many heat guns on line for this type of work, what would you recommend?
Any help/comments will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, that is the DSP chip's fault. Usually, there is no USB and no network either. I have only tried once, but it did not work for me. It is not easy, to replace a BGA chip.

pipo1nsano: I have been looking all over for the last few days with no success. There are a few (B version) that are used and those may be questionable.
tibimakai: I believe you were referring to my post. Thanks for the input. I was thinking in terms of loss of power somewhere that needs to be checked before attempting the difficult part of dealing with the Ti chip.

I don't think, that you will find better DSP ICs out there, than that Aliexpress ones. Maybe from other broken boards, with different issues. I was saying, that those are the other symptoms of a bad DSP ic.

Tried to do a reflow on the Onkyo TX-NR616, no result. I think the chip is dead. Unit has 18580 hours so it is well beyond its 17000 mtbf.
I ordered a B rev chip on aliexpress. D rev. Chips are nowhere to be found...

Once, I remember that I have sent out one of my previous HDMI boards, to an Ebay repairman to repair my board, I believe it was or the 616, or 626 receiver's board, and he installed a tiny power supply on top of another bigger IC. If I remember correctly, it was for the 5V supply. From the factory, it was like 5.2V and by installing this power supply, he brought it down to 5V. I have a picture on badcapsforum somewhere, but I can't seem to find it now. It did not have audio, or video, I don't remember now.
