Dear Tibimakai, thanks for your post, but just to better understand: the AVR was running the last firmware available, installed from USB, this for same weeks, without problems. The only way to get into this modus, because of CEC, is that my childrens tried to install a previous firmware from Network and then abort it. But my childrens want to play PS4 and not do experiments. I´m pretty sure about this.
Anyway the question is: do you see any possibility how to get out of this?
What does it mean error 1-40, error 6-40, error 3-68?
Bye

TJMotter is the expert in these matters. I assume, that since the firmware was interrupted, not all components were updated. I have never seen a description of Onkyo error codes. Most likely, the firmware has to be applied one by one, to each components separately, am I right TJ?

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I have the same problem on my TX-NR818. I did the same tests suggested above, I updated the various parts individually but currently it does not detect the firmware of the DSP2, the OSD and the VMPU. I have the tools and a programmer but I don't have the files Can anyone help me?

I did the same tests suggested above, I updated the various parts individually but currently it does not detect the firmware of the DSP2, the OSD and the VMPU. If not, I am not sure that this would be a firmware issue. The OSD and VMPU are related but DSP2 is a separate subsystem so this would leave me to believe that you have a problem with one of the voltage rails. Further, an Onkyo updates the firmware one device at a time so it would not start on a second device until it was sure that the first one was successful. This makes it unlikely (not impossible) that multiple subsystems would be affected.
Did you notice any other symptoms? I recently had a lightning strike near my home that did a lot of damage to my NR818. Both HDMI chips were blown which brought the 1.2V rail to 0 volts. Once I replaced these chips, my HDMI board was working again. I still had a lot of work to do since the lightning strike also took out both Analog to Digital converters, the Main CPU and a couple of other parts but those HDMI chips were the cause of my HDMI/OSD/VMPU issues.
The easy check for this is to use a multimeter to measure the voltage on pin 3 of Q8931. I typically test all of the voltage regulators like this (1.86 - Q8921, 3.3V-Q8911 and 5.2V-Q8901)

Can we have at least the end result in English? I don't understand everything in Italian. Though I have an Alfa Romeo Stelvio. I'm Hungarian from Romania, originally.

Google translate is a wonderful thing: Todd: Do you have a programmer who can burn one of these? www.kynix.com/uploadfiles/pdf9675/W25Q16CVSSIG.pdf. I can recommend one if you like it and if you can get one, I can send you the code for DSP2 Federico: Yes, I am in possession of the programmer, I would like to ask if you would also have a dump of the NAND so that you can do all the tests. Thank you Todd: I'm sorry but I don't share the DSP1 firmware images. The DSP1 firmware contains the MAC address of the Ethernet controller, which means it is unique to the machine it exited from. As this is essentially a "serial number" that can be tracked, I don't share this firmware. Please send me a message with your email address and I will send you a copy of the DSP2 firmware.

I've recently fixed tx-nr818 with exaclty the same issue. Long story short, all this was caused by some really bad joints between 1st dsp and hdmi board. After reballing and soldering 1st back, sound was woring and was able to upgrade firmware for 2nd dsp.
