Hi,
I have an Onkyo TX-Nr5007, it was my main amp but developed the dreaded HDMI network/sound problem but it was well out of warranty with an expensive repair bill if I returned to be repaired in Germany, so instead I resurrected my older TX NR5000E fitted it with a new external HDMI switch and relegated the TX NR5007 to the cupboard.
A couple of years later Onkyo brought in that HDMI board replacement program which I signed up to and sent it away for repair, it arrived back I connected it up and seemed to be working OK but I never put it back permanently into my system as I loved the sound of my NR5000E, I had NET radio on the amp through a netproxy server on the PC and the HDMI switch worked perfectly with macro commands on my remote control.
Recently however the NR5000E developed a fault so I put the TX-NR5007 back in but after a few days I noticed a problem that was not there before I got the HDMI board replaced.
A noise like varying static appeared on the left speaker, on any digital input or analog input, all except NET audio, no noise! Also if I switched the unit off then on again it went away but a couple of times the noise returned almost immediately.
I also noticed the that if I used the calibration signal the left speaker had a varying white noise-static noise sound and the static sound stayed on the left speaker all the time whatever any other speaker you selected in the calibration setup, again this is intermittent
Is this a DSP firmware issue with the modified HDMI board that they fitted?
I've seen on other forums others have described this noise issue, one post described exactly my problem but he had noise from different speakers except when he selected NET audio.
Any help on this hard to trace problem would be appreciated.
Thanks.
