Onkyo Firmware Repository

Hi, kind of wandering around the dark here. 
Supposed I just wanted a specific firmware like the firmware for the DSP EEPROM, which file from the 3 .of files should I try to unpack? 
Also, to unpack do we need to be running a Linux OS? can't be done in windows? 

Hi Todd, thanks. Further on with this. The further I went on with this I more I'm thinking that this is only good for programming the receiver in its entirety, and not for troubleshooting specific issues that most Onkyo's have or had (DSP corrupted firmware). Also the proof of concept only explored regarding communicating with the receiver through the universal port.

Does this also mean that flashing cannot be done unto specific sections (DSP only, or HDMI only? 
The extracted firmware and decrypted ones in the link appears to be bundled up together. They be flashed in it's entirety all in one go? 

Hi Todd, asking saves a lot of guesswork and research. I am slowly learning the ropes, thanks to you. I believe I have seen that thread but haven't really dive into it, but will surely look into it later on. I have seen in one of the posts that you commented that it may work on older models, where he connected a CH341a and a circuit jig/kit.
When you said the "right programming tools" I don't suppose that CH341a and that jig will suffice ?

I made a Live USB Ubuntu, I'm thinking it's still a Linux OS so might explore the unpacking them extracted firmware. I too have the CH341a just going on it slowly, before going in full swing. 

Did the circuit, and it's a steel learning curve. The schematic on the side of the CH341a says, RX,TX. The connector on Onkyo P751a only has FSI, FSO and FHS. FSI and FSO is for receiving and transmitting data respectively?

Looks like it's a very steep learning curve. 😆

I'm new to the forum, I have a pioneer vsx-s520 home theater thing, which shares a bloodline with Onkyo. Unfortunately, my device is frozen, circuit-wise everything seems fine, some parts seem to work (reacts to the remote control, turns off, turns on), but nothing is visible on the display. When switched on, the FL OFF led lights up red, when in standby mode the NETWORK led lights up blue, from the network it is not possible to access either WIFI, Bluetooth or network cable. It doesn't have many buttons, only Power. I connected to the ARM UART connector in the way you described, this is P3201 for me, I get the boot process which stops here Starting kernel...
I don't see it unpacking the kernel. Can I fix the boot process somehow? During kernel loading I get an error message "Booting from nand ...
INFO: loading kernel image into RAM...
Unknown command 'bstate' - try 'help' "
I think this could also cause the problem.
My previous amplifier was an Onkyo tx-nr 5020, which was successfully repaired with an NVRAM error (soldered out, new NVRAM programmed with a dump file that someone read from another receiver), firmware update after startup and it works wonderfully. I can't find NVRAM content for Pioneer. Can I possibly extract the contents of the NVRAM from the firmware, which I can load into the NVRAM after soldering?

Afraid I don't have an answer for you.  I haven't looked at this closely and since I have the advanced programmer, I can't justify the time.  I guess you could try it and see.
