Hi, I have an Onkyo NR676 with I think is a corrupted bios. It powers on and functions, sound works, video works, etc. The only things that don't work are networking features, OSD, Bluetooth and casting. Whenever I try to update I get the 0-81 error code. I've tried USB and network but no luck. I am currently researching on this forum how to reflash it using a ch341a, which I ordered but it's gonna be a bit before it gets here.
I have no problem waiting while I learn to attempt to fix it but evertime I power it on it's says "please update" and won't accept and remote inputs until the setup button is pressed twice, therefore breaks all my automation. Is there any way to get rid of that message for the time being, while I wait til the programmer gets here and I get more confident on attempting to flash it. Any advice on another fix instead of programming it or is that really my only option at this point? Thanks ahead of time.

Just an idea, did you try updating twice, one after the other? I remember it happened to me too in the past something similar, some kind of eighties code, after updating it twice, it completed the update.

I know there is a way to force update these receivers, but I have forgot how to do it. Tjmotter used to be the expert with these receivers, but I believe that he quite this hobby. You could read up on his responses.

CH341A won't do much as corrupted firmware is stored in 2GB NAND memory. You need to remove and reprogram it with compatible programmer. Oh, and you need a working .bin file too.

Force FW update will not work, because ARM processor which is responsible for network and usb functions, is not booting up due to corrupted firmware inside 2GB NAND.

I was able to get the receiver to stop bugging to update everytime I turn it on by doing another full factory reset. I might just leave it as is since it all technically works, just the network functions don't, since it's more than just a simple reprogram. It should tide me over until I save up for a new receiver. I just got an 85" 120Hz TV and this receiver can't pass through 120Hz so I eventually need to upgrade anyway.
