So I inherited the above mentioned laptop. Story: It was said it worked fine until some spagheti didn't fall into the keyboard. The machine was still working with that, but the keys were obviously sticky, so the keyboard was washed (out of laptop), but after the reassmebly the laptop didn't start up. I put the bare motherboard into the dishwasher, since that the laptop is starting up more or less. The green power LED always lights up, but there are two scenarios: only the green LED lits, the fan blows one, but no other sign, not even the HDD starting but it gets its 5V, then it powers off (2-10 sec is the ON time depending on luck), then it restarts on its own 1-2-3 times again depending on luck. Rarely the machine starts up normally (with the HDD), and is seem to work until it shuts off. So I guess something around the power supplies could be wrong, however I tested all the supply lines to be good. There is a winbond wpc8763 controller, but it seems the south and northbridge also has part in the power up sequence, and I couldn't figure out yet what is causing the power to shut down. I know this machine isn't worth much but it would be fun if we could make it run..

The only 2 things that come to mind are:
1) Check the onboard battery.
2) I have had many instances where the copper traces on those film type harnesses comes loose and either: bends back, breaks off or crosses over and touches other traces. I have even had the traces break in the film itself and you can only tell by doing a continuity test while wiggling the film strip.

theres a trigger on the mobo which kills power whenever
1) high temperature is detected 2) a short is detected 3) a voltage drop occurs
im thinking you either killed one of the onboard controllers (one of the winbonds) or you killed the chipset controller (north south bridge) by putting it in the dishwasher.
