I've had this plasma for a couple years now, I barely use it,but I finally got the interactive overlay accessories all pieced together after searching online for a couple of them, and I'd like to use it for an interactive sign.
Problem it has is on a cold power-on, when a bright or all white screen gets thrown up, the top half of the plasma blacks out. If I leave itpowered on like that for a few minutes, I can turn the monitor off and back on and the problem usually resolves itself. Other than that, it works perfect. I haven't pulled it off the wall yet, but will be doing so in the middle of this week. I want at least start by gettingan idea of what board is failing.

Well the fact that it can be fine at one time and a problem another you would have to assume a bad harness or board connection, bad solder joints, failing cap and maybe in a rare instance a failing component. Since it only affects the top half of the screen this narrows it down significantly. You have 2 scanning boards connected to the panel, 1 for top half and one for bottom half. Then you have the scanning PWB which controls both of those. So your problem would most likely be on the upper scanning board or the scanning pwb. I doubt it would be an individual scan ic on the upper board since the whole half is affected. If on the board it would most likely be a cap or bad connection or solder joint. If the problem is on the scanning pwb then I would limit the search to the area on the board that affects only the upper scanning board. I have attached some images to assist. If you need more info let me know as I have lots, including voltage tests points that you could check both when you have a upper image and when not. But you would need the back off for this.

That'll help quite a lot, thanks! I'll pull the set off the wall this week and open it up. This thing was used in a board room before I got ahold of it so I'm hoping its just a failing capacitor from usage, which would make sense since the set doesn't have this issue after its on for 15-30 minutes or longer. I'll keep you updated
