The receiver will not power up at all. I need to better understand how the power supply works.
I did take some measurements here is what I have these are on connector JL901A of the power supply.
pin 1 STPOWER = 0v pin 2 +12VST = 12V pin 3 GND Pin 4 +9VST = 0v Pin 5 POWERD = 10.1V
So is pin 1 the standby power?
I did take some reading across the zener diodes and the are much lower than I think they should be but I am not sure.
I do have the service manual if that will help anyone willing to give me a hand.
Thanks, Dean

Huh, I thought I had that manual. Yes, I will need a copy. How large is the file?

If I zip it up it's 3.7MB Ok, that's not to large. Send it here: repairalmostanything@yahoo.com

Got it. Give me a little bit to look it over. Thanks, I going to sleep for a bit I have been up for about 30 hours straight. I fixed two other receivers but for some reason I am hitting a wall with this one I need to learn more on how this power supply works. Maybe I am over tired but before I do something stooped I going to get some sleep. Thanks Again.

I would first try a jumper wire across pins 1 and 3 of JL901A. Now when you plug it in you should here the main relay latch on. See if the display lights up and also recheck the voltages on pins 2,4,5 of JL901A again.

See if the display lights up and also recheck the voltages on pins 2,4,5 of JL901A again. Ok due to not enough sleep I think I measure the pins wrong the first time here is what I have now. Pin1 - POWERD = 10.06v Pin2 - 9VST = 0v pin3 - GND pin4 - +12VST = 12.26v Pin5 - STPOWER = 0v I tried to jumper Pins 1 to 3 and the relay never latched I did leave the transformer disconnected while do this test. I also tested the pins while I pressed the power switch. When pressing the power switch here is what I got. Pin1 - drops to 0 and then goes right back to 10.06v Pin2 - no change pin3 - GND pin4 - drops to 0 and then goes back to 12.26v pin5- goes to 1.8v then drops back to 0 really quick. Ok I think I have found the problem the relay looks to be bad (open coil). Now where can I find one the only place I am finding them is Newark and they are shipping from the UK a $2.33 part is going to cost me $30 with shipping OUCH!

You have the relay pulled out already?

And the coil tests open? You can also test it with a 9 volt battery.
If yes, then you should be able to put a jumper wire across the 2 pads where the relay was (not the coil ones) and the receiver should turn on.

Yes the coil tested open and I also tested it with a 9 volt battery it's bad for sure. I just installed the jumper and it powered right up. Do you have a source to get the part in the US? or should I just go ahead and order it from Newark? The part number on the relay is SDT-S-109DMR2 Thanks.....

Excellent I don't how I missed that one I had looked on Mouser & Digi-key. Looking at the Data Sheet the only difference I see is that the one you found has lower coil consumption 150mW vs the original part 250mW I have another receiver I have been working on it's a pioneer VSX-1021K I having the same problems as another thread you have going. Should I post in that tread or start a new one? Thanks again for the help....
