Ok I have a Pioneer VSX-1121-K That has no sound it powers up fine no errors are detected in the service menu.
I have tried to update the firmware but it always fails at 20% it does not mater if I use the Network or USB Stick.
Where might I start to look? I have checked the basic but I don't see anything wrong.
From following the service manual No Sound flow Chart it looks like the Audio ASSY could be bad.
Thanks for the help, Dean

I have the exact same issue. It just happened last week. All AV Switching is fine but I am not getting any audio even from the radio tuner. The headphone jack doesn't work either so I assume its the D-main board not the audio assy.

Give me a little more time to look this up. I am not sure if I have this manual.

Have you tried using an analog input and setting the receiver to "Pure Direct"?

I have not tried this. I currently dont have the unit. I took it to a friend that works on electronics to see if he could diagnose this issue. I will get it back and give that a shot.

I am still waiting to get my unit back but I started thinking... I did try the radio tuner outputting to the headphones wouldn't that be the same type of test?

Well not necessarily but i would have to trace through the schematics to verify. What I am trying to find out here is this. When you use "Pure Direct" it bypasses the DSP section of the receiver. The test would be nothing more then to narrow down what section of the signal path you would need to start testing at. And I am not sure if the tuner signal passes through the DSP section regardless of "Pure Direct" or not.

No hurry. Take your time and heal up. That is more important.

I just purchased another broken unit on eBay with a spare main board. My hope is to use one for parts and get the other working. Is there any power I need to discharge before I start working on this?

No, you should not have to discharge anything. Only the power caps would hold a substantial charge but they should dissipate fairly quickly. But that is only after you have tried a startup. It is usually only a problem when you try a startup with boards disconnected and then attempt to reconnect them after a failed start.
