I have a whirlpool washer and the hot water runs very slow when filling the machine. The cold water runs fine. What can I check?

Check the shut off valve and make sure it's open all the way. If that's ok then remove the hot water hose and check the filter screens in the hose and the washer valve where the hose attaches.

I checked the screens. There was a little stuff but it is still running slow. The valve is open all the way.

Try swapping the 2 hoses at one end. When you start filling the washer the hot will now be cold water and the cold will be hot water. See if the hot is still slow or if the cold is now slow.

I swapped the hoses and when I select hot, the cold comes out and it runs fine. When I select cold, the hot comes out and it is very slow.

Unfortunately it looks like your problem is not with your washer but something with your hot water supply. Does the hot also run slow in the sinks and tub?

Does the hot come from the hose at a normal rate when it is disconnected from the machine?
If so, either the hose is blocked, or the little filter is the problem. Pull the filters out at both ends of the hose and test that.
