What kind of glycol is used in coolant chambers? This is the stuff i have easy access to: It is used in large tanks that circulate it around the building here with the beer lines to keep it cold, the water/glycol mix is kept at around -2° in the tank. The bottle there is straight glycol.

Well that wasnt of much use, the refractometer is in % glycol to water...

Well it does look like the refractive index is the same however the heat transfer coefficient of ethylene is better then propylene, 0.2537 vs. 0.2105. How that applies here I have no idea, LOL.

Yeah i dont know either, its a bit of a pain to get a hold of the right gear over here, i was meant to get a bottle thrown in when i bought the 3 new P19 tubes a while back, but it never went in the box. Considering what i paid for the green i shouldve got 3 bottles of new coolant included!!

You also need glycerine in an amount of 30:70. I found a webstore that sells labstuff where I ordered it. Must be one where you are located.

After draining it out, I wouldn't want to reuse it. Not after fitting brand new tubes, I reckon ill just put in brand new stuff...

Im revisiting this again, I have 2lts of this product on its way.
I will check it for its crystal clarity, and if it passes that test, I will throw some in and see how it goes.

According to wikipedia, propylene glycol has a refractive index of 1,4324 whereas MONO- etylene glycol has 1,4318. This is so close together that i think it should be possible using propylene glycol instead of monoetyleneglycol (which is the standard stuff) and mix it with glycerine (1,4745) maybe in a different ratio than the standard 70/30. Plus 1,2 propandiol (=propylene glycol) is a approved food additive and (i found no proof for this) most likely it isn't corrosive like monoetylene glycol. So if it is clear like water... i'd try it. I actually have about 500ml of propylene glycol here. It is clear, defenitely. But i haven't compared it to other stuff, just a quick look. Regards, Julian
