Spare parts for the set? I have two complete sets, but i would probably buy from Greg Eisemann again in the future as he stocks all Barco parts and ive not had an issue with him claiming new when its clearly used. I bought 3 new quads from him and theyre just that, NEW. I bought one from another source that was claimed new, it died after a short amount of hours and was clearly not new either. The replacement i was sent was even older and wasnt even the correct ( or compatible without a fair bit of modding modding ) part for the set.

yeah spare parts for my cine 9. looks like greg will be getting my business too. whats the thing most prone to failing? I have read youve been through a few quads now. are other boards hard to come by? I originally wanted to have a blend of cine 9's but the second set I came across locally came up at a bad time and had to reluctantly let it go. now I wish I just bought it. are the 1209s' the next best set to a cine 9? can the cine 9 lenses be adapted to fit a 1209s?

No the 1209 is not as sharp, and its not the same internally either. You must use two sets the same.
You could use a 909, but youll need to buy the coloured C elements as the Cine 9 cones with those, and the 909 software runs the fans at full speed all the time.
One set installed is enough, at least until you get real good at setup!
I did go through a few quads, two that came with the set were purchased by the previous owner, and the two i got from that same source. They all squealed and made noises, as well as caused the image to quiver. The new quad is dead silent. Id probably keep a spare quad and a spare splitter, maybe a spare controller. The other boards arent too difficult to repair.

As far as i know there isnt anyone here that has had any bad transactions with Greg, he has always been very helpful when ever ive asked. Certain items he is dearer, some he was a bit cheaper, but you will get what you pay for first go, and that is important to me.

thats right, not like theres any other sources for good parts? I will make an enquiry with greg tomorrow about what he has for my set.
what is your video chain casey? I was always going to build a htpc with a bluray player and run hdmi out into a hdfury then into the cine 9. theres a guy in melbourne carrying hdfury4's for 300$. was going to nab one.

hello all. just updating where i got with all this. i bought a vga to bnc cable at below half price ($128 down to $50) at 10m long. some real heavy fancy cables. got it hooked upto my cine 9 and couldnt get an image to display. after some pc trouble shooting, i moved the bnc cables around only to find they werent seated in the projector correctly. as nice as they were, i returned them for a $17 vga to bnc cable at 2m long. they work perfect. no issues at all. i bought a no brand hdmi to vga (3d capable) convertor box for $60. it works well (tried it on my pc lcd monitor) but found a dvi to vga plug that came with my motherboard. i bypassed the hdmi convertor under caseys suggestion and went with my onboard graphics card dvi out to vga, then vga to bnc. it works well, however, as i didnt install the onboard graphics drivers, i am limited to 1024x768 resolution for now. its very undesireable. i installed powerstrip thinking it would let me adjust the resolution to whatever i wanted, but it doesnt. i was originally going to build a htpc with bluray, netflix etc. but after also having a jaggy motion output from the onboard card, i want to move away from htpc's. i am thinking about getting a hdfury 4 (with 3d capability - not that its something i desire, but like to have the ability to do so.) and use it with the hdmi out from my bose switch/amp and into the cine 9. the bose switch/amp allows upto four hdmi inputs and strips the audio. after talking with casey, i plan to buy an oppo for all my bluray/dvd content. netflix is hit and miss at the moment with my current internet connection. so i am thinking an xbox/playstation with netflix app for all other content. i havent done a full setup on the cine 9. i have only just fit the new cable and got the alignments and convergence right. i am new to crt projectors so i really had no idea what the convergence was all about. i am impressed how the input is manipulated to any shape we desire! i have yet to touch the tubes for any adjustments. i am nervous opening that lid! i dont want to wreck anything. i can shift and adjust the raster and image within the tubes now. i think ive spotted a burn in image on the green and blue tubes. it looks like a windows task bar! pretty pissed about that! now my eyes cannot unsee it. i am hoping its an artifact from something i am doing wrong, but doubt it. the fuzzy lines come and go. this morning i fired it up and it was present lightly and went away. fired it up now and can see alot of moving fuzzy lines through the lower half of the projected image. is it possible for the focus to come and go also? not sure if its my eyes or the projector, but i feel at times the focus goes blurry after some time? i hope i can fix or overcome these issues with creative raster/image placement on the tubes without having to replace the tubes? i have alot to learn and a long way to go. i am only projecting onto a half curtain and half wall unfortunately for now. i am renting and dont have a fixed screen yet. i cant move the projector back any further so i am limited in screen size also. i find that using the cine 9 as a monitor for navigating the internet and pc is plenty bright in an uncontrolled slightly sunlit room at 60 brightness and 50 contrast, but the second i watch a movie, it gets really washed out. i can see the need for a high gain screen and a light controlled room. i plan to have a total darkness room for the cine 9 when we buy our first home early next year. i love the nostalgia with this technology and the sheer size and ability of the set, but see why people move toward an lcos projector set for ease of use and less maintenance as a trade off for some of the crt's strengths. best regards, justin

Install the video drivers, there is no good reason not to. The DVI-VGA adaptor is only an adaptor, the DVI output socket has an analog section, its the 4 pins with the cross in the middle. That is standard RGB-HV, so no video mode conversion is taking place. No driver installed is likely the cause of your jaggy jolty image, ive never experienced that myself. The OPPO 103D-AU has Netflix built in, as well as almost everything else. Get one from their ebay store, and save a ton. There is no valid reason not to buy an OPPO The HD Fury 4 is good enough, but the internal MOOME is a better option. Not only does MOOME stand very firmly behind his very well made product, his service is top notch. The "service" from the HD Fury team is f***en disgraceful after you purchace the product, their tech support people have very limited knowledge, their products dont live up to the specs or claims they advertise, the 3D will NOT work properly on your Barco due to their claims being false, and the quality of the product is a far cry from the high quality of the internal MOOME. It is for that group of reasons i very strongly suggest you DO NOT purchace a HD Fury 4, theyre over priced and not as good by a long way. The DR HDMI product they sell is actually pretty good though. Buy one of those if you have HDMI handshake issues with long cables ( i did, very rarely, but that DR HDMI fixed that ) But id not like to see you give these people your money for their substandard HD-Fury product. Give the business to MOOME instead. Pull the lense off the green and take a couple photos looking into the tube face with the set turned off. Hopefully we can see the wear pattern. New tubes are not an option for you yet, the tubes you have will be fine for you to practice on without fear of damage

thanks casey!
i have been fiddling with the cine 9 over the last week. i got my video drivers sorted and am feeding it 1080p 60hz from my pc with ease. using a htpc is becoming somewhat unappealing to me now (aside from gaming and emulator use.) so, an oppo 103d au will be the first thing i'll purchase. i will also purchase the moome card as discussed above. netflix has been okay on the htpc, but i noticed alot of the content resolution varies. is this something the oppo can take control of (as in, force a certain size?) or will i need a scaler? i dont know alot about projectors and screen sizes. does the content of blurays vary alot? i presume the 120" diagonal 16:9 covers all aspect ratios? for 4:3 and 16:9?
i think i am going to leave the cine 9 for now until i move into my new home. i am also definately going to need someone to come around and calibrate/setup the projector with me when i do. i dont quite understand some terminology like "wind the coils back." i had a look at the back of the tube necks and can see two plastic things that rotate around the glass. i presume thats what you are referring to. i dont want to damage anything so i'll just leave it for now. however, the cine 9 has definately got some jittering on the lower 1/3 of the screen on all tubes. and i am certain the cine 9 is going in and out of focus from each time i use it. i turned the projector warm up setting on but havent turned it back on since doing so.
i did enjoy viewing it poorly setup. its got better colours than the medium level epson i saw a few weeks ago. which pleases me alot! its the brightness that i am concerned about, but with a 1.26 gain majestic screen you recommend im sure it'll pop. i plan to have a no window room for the final setup. i am just curious what its like to have a light in the room with these crt's, as i would like to have racing/football/ufc events projected on this set. and sitting in a dark room all day is unappealing for some? would a rear projection setup be worth the trouble? i was looking over the avsforum for rear projection setups in a well lit room i found a few awesome threads.
anyway. thanks for all the help. not sure if its worth ordering boards from greg now or when the projectors setup. as it may be a setup issue causing this fuzzy line? and drifting? i definately want a pro around when its getting mounted to the roof.
best regards,
justin

Yes, the OPPO can be set to spit everything out at 1920x1080 60Hz including PAL DVDs, so you only need one setting on the Barco for the whole lot. Forget rear projection. Its not the way to go. For me to come and set up your projector in your new home you would need it installed in position and the screen hung, or at least have the CM-100 mounted on unistrut and have it ready to take the projector. Itll cost you too much to get me there though, depends on what youre willing to spend!!

Furthermore, despite what some people with no real experience believe, you still want a dark room for rear projection, pretty much the same as front projection.
