Greetings, I have an old Yamaha A3090 receiver. Heavy unit, have had for years after buying used. 80 watts per channel times the front three plus smaller values for the rears. Pre-out/Main-ins so this would also be a good backup amp. Good sounding early multichannel unit that was built while Yammie was still building high quality stuff.
It has a quirk that finally I am getting around to fixing again. It required two button pushes (may be three on occasion) to turn on. Otherwise it turns on for a second, then turns off. Same if using the remote control. Once it's on, it stays on. I've done master reset a couple of times and the first time it seemed to work, and then found out otherwise.
It was purchased off CL from someone who had used it in a home automation system, and it had an IR in it that I removed. Too long ago to recall where it was hooked in.
Any ideas where to start?

First thing that comes to mind is to check idle current of all channels.
