Got a PT-D5500U DLP projector here that someone attempted to either repair or just needed a fan from it. It was missing a fan when I got it, and all the wires were disconnected from the mainboard, and screws were missing, etc... it was a real POS basically. Anyway I've got it all back together and almost functioning. Everything seems to work up until it tries to ignite the lamps. The problem is: Power it on, it does its startup cycle, then the fans kick in high speed and the power LED indicator starts blinking 3 times repeatedly in amber/red (not really sure since its not very bright) The user manual says to contact my dealer for service, so thats useless of course. I am thinking it is either the PSU or one of the 2 ballasts in the unit, but I'm not really sure. I have the service manual for it if needed and can do voltage checks and what not so if there's a possibility to get this thing fired up, I'd like to try! EDIT: I just wanted to update the original post for the fix. The colorwheel was bad (worn out from use in a dusty environment) so a replacement was installed, which fixed the projector. The colorwheel from any PT-D4xxx 5xxx Projector is interchangeable with each other (if you happen to have another one that has a more serious issue, such as cosmetic damage). Colorwheel replacement is fairly straight forward in this projector, simply pull the old one out and put the new one in, and it should work fine. I won't detail assembly/disassembly because it is fairly obvious on which screws need to be removed to access the inside of the projector, and colorwheel area. Good luck and enjoy your Panny!

Are you able to test on the main cpu (ic2507) with the unit powered up?

Also found this:
Quick reset:
When lamp unit 1 has been replaced: In standby mode, press the number buttons in the sequence of 737381, and then press ENTER. When lamp unit 2 has been replaced: In standby mode, press the number buttons in the sequence of 737382, and then press ENTER. When the projector lamps hours have been reset, the lamp monitor (LAMP1/LAMP2) will flash for 3 seconds.

MT, thanks for the info so far, I'll have to get to this projector hopefully tomorrow or the weekend at the latest. I'm currently knee deep in polarizer replacements (What a load of fun too!) I'll update on this as soon as I can get the projector im currently working on done.

May have an update on this. I haven't had any time to work on the projector itself, but I received another one that did "work" but the colorhweel was busted up. I swapped the colorwheel from the PT-D5500U this thread is about into the new Panasonic and the problem from this PT-D5500U followed into the new Panasonic. The same exact behavior and error LEDs now appear. So I apparently need 2 colorwheels and these should work!!
For what its worth, the PT-D5500 color wheel still spins up and sounds normal (except you hear what sounds like it rebooting every few seconds). Once I get a replacement I'll update the thread and see if thats the solution!

Just wanted to quickly update this, this projector has been repaired. The colorwheel indeed was bad. Replaced with a new one and it works fine. I'd also like to add that if you have a similar model to this one or this model, that it could easily be several other boards in this projector, I have had these models run me around the entire internals over something as simple as lamps shutting down because the projector "thinks" they are bad. So I won't guarantee this to be a fix for everyone out there that has the 3 amber standby LED blinks, but its definitely possible.
