It does not have to lose a voltage ,putting the jumper on the smps which does the same thing as on the control board the projector also will start up even if you have removed the control board ,of course in this case you not will have a picture.(nothing is set) From your description I`m pretty sure the core crashes .Make an extension cable about 50cm for the control board so you can run the projector with the tray in front of the projector but not slide in now use extension cable to connect only the control board to chassis board disconnect all cable on control board except j510(rs232,remote) You can run the projector without the convergence , focus and astig boards the control boards does not know (no feedback) there is one green led on the board near I13 (biggest chip on the board) which should be lit at all times (takes about two sec from power up,standby power!!) remember the core runs always also in standby ,if core crashes the led will go out and only comes back if core runs fine again. If the led goes out for about 2 sec maybe a reset happend for some reason. I have had this fault same as your (latest) description it was a bad solder joint on I10 (core ram)

I`m to slow in responding . Just to add to the previous it can be alot of other things to but I bet on a bad solder joint somewhere in the core. I`m not impressed with the solder joint on most control boards I have seen.

I`m not impressed with the solder joint on most control boards I have seen. So what is the best fix for that? Ive looked over it and they all look fair to me, but I doubt ill see it will my eyes, although they haven't used much solder at all. Should I wave the SMD hot air blower over a few of the legs on these chips or is there a better method? Projector is on the ceiling, so running with the board hanging out is not an ideal option. I will have to put my other set back together to be able to do tests like that, and ive got a couple other boards not functioning correctly in that one.

When it would shut off, pressing the power button on the remote would turn it back on basically straight away.

Bad solder joints are not always visible .(intermediate problems are mostly hard to find) If the core does not get stuck should restart pressing standby ,thats why seeing the led is an important clue. For the soldering ,any method that you have experience with is o.k. (don`t do it ,if you have no experience) Spacing like on the ram leads I still do it with hand .(old school)

I have a late revision controller board (the one with the change to the -9volt regulator) that was faulty. I am sharing my findings. Maybe someone will have a simular problem one day.
The fault,
The PJ would fire up as normal. after the hour glass a blurry picture would come up. The bottom part of the picture would flash on and off. A bit like blanking After about 30 seconds it would blow the 3.15 amp fuse in the main power supply. The front ASTIG STK392-110 was very hot. The controller had a note on it when I received it that the ASTIG drive was faulty.
Testing, By disconnecting the ASTIG I could get it to run normally. Isolated down to the 6 pole ASTIG J653. I checked all the components around I56 (6 pole ASTIG driver amp) and all measured fine. Next I changed I56 but this didn't fix the problem. Next step was to disconnect the DAC (I55) from I56 by removing the 3 x 100ohm in line resistors.(R219,R214,R209) The PJ runs fine with these resistors removed.
So next I made the decision to remove a DAC from an earlier controller and fit it to this one. Refitted the 3 resistors and now the board works perfectly. I would say an arc may of caused the DAC damage. I also replaced all the caps on the board. These later boards run so much cooler. I will be fitting this board to the 919 on the weekend.

Yeah i havent had much time to finish my other controller yet, i did manage to fix it though and it works now.
One difference between the two boards though is that my older style board has the voltages display menu, where as my newer one does not, and i havent found a reason why.

The newer revision of board with SEOS 311 firmware has voltage menu.

The firmware isnt by SEOS, at least not the flashable side of things isnt anyway, but yeah this other controller of mine never had it to start with, after putting Cine 9 v2.21 on it there were a heap more menus that were not present before when it had 909 v3.12, but even after putting Cine 9 firmware on it still identifies as a SKYVISION DIGITAL THEATRE BY SKYSKAN or something like that, even though its functionality is identical now to my other Cine 9 controller with v2.21, with the exception of that one missing menu item, which was never ever there.

Does anyone have a picture and or circuit diagram for the later controller? Its a 780822-4.
I took all the caps around the regulators off using hot air to renew them expecting them to be marked on the board with a + to indicate polarity, but no markings.
Lesson learnt. Next time I will take a picture or mark the board.
Thanks, Greg

Haha!! Just throw them in and if they go bang youll know they go the other way We did this here with a $22,000 3 phase refrigeration compressor that is only meant to spin one way, thought the terminals were marked but they werent... Took a punt, still running 4 years later
