I will gladly admit I was a dumbass and took this unit apart before trying to reset it...... Didn't realize that resetting might fix and I had read elsewhere that others had a problem w the SW preout failing from being physically twisted or pushed on too hard. So I thought I had this simple problem. Upon getting it apart the non working preouts connect fine to the PCB.....I was looking for further tests I can or should perform before I reassemble it....I dont have a manual for this ex model but have one for a 1121k. It is very similar. Oh further details on the exact problem, this amp works completely in all respects, except the Front R and Subwoofer preouts dont output a signal. It may be a coincidence but they are right next to each other.
Thanks in advance for any and all help. Rick

The master reset procedure should be in the owners manual. Try that first.

Put it back together and now I get a blinking MACC error and the display says Amp err I know this means DC on the speaker outputs....How I did most likely screw up putting it back together to cause this? The only things connected on the back are some HDMI connections and the Front preouts and of course the power cord. I took the rear panel off and the HDMI board loose from the hard connectors and flipped it forward, out of the way. Then the 2 boards below the HDMI board stayd together as I was able to get to the RCA connections at this point. It seemed to go back back together fairly easily, but obviously I screwed the pooch somewhere.
I've since removed the back panel again to check my work and all appears ok.....I see no obvious errors in reassembly. And the MACC light still blinks w/ the rear panel installed again.....Someone please help....
Thanks again Rick

Thanks for the non help...
Holding down the tune- button and the multizone on/off button simultaneously for 2 secs reset the unit and now it appears to function again. I have not tested the preouts yet....but at least it now turns on and off and has a normal display.

Sorry for the bad attitude, but it took me many hours of reading stuff to find this simple fix. This procedure is NOT in the owners manual......and the service manual I have is for an 1121 and the procedure for it is different and didnt work on mine. Not to mention the time spent taking the receiver apart 2 more times looking for non existent issues.
Now that I've some time to mess with it further, it only makes sound from a analog source on pure direct......i.e. specifically the only way I can make it play any sound is from the radio on pure direct. On Direct or any other sound setting nothing zilch nada. When I hooked it to a HDMI source I couldnt get any sound. It does handle video just fine. I have done the enter plus standby reset that is in the owners manual and it hasn't helped. It appears I've somehow killed the DA converter or DSP.....
Do you think reloading the firmware might help?
If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears.
Thanks again Rick

Well actually the master reset suggestion was given before the MCACC protection error was posted. And the MCACC error will not just happen. Something had to cause it, even if it was a poor connection. Hopefully everything is properly connected and installed. But that is all history.
Do any of the analog audio inputs have sound in pure direct or only the radio?

Just tested the CD in and it also works only in pure direct.....I reflashed the firmware to no effect.
Thanks again for any and all help. Rick

I have had a similar problem before. Go to the audio board. The one with the analog inputs and locate connector CN2504 and see if it is connected to something. If it is then you have to do some testing on that connector while the receiver is powered up. Can you get at it to test? You cannot disassemble or disconnect anything when testing unless I confirm it.

Working from 1121K service man. (I cant find a 1020K man, can you help?)(How does one get these from Pioneer?) it appears that the small 7 conductor ribbon cable (In the center of the picture with the blue end visible) is 2504, it goes to the MACC microphone input on the front panel....I can access the PCB solder point for this cable on the audio board while its assembled. PS I've also noticed in the input setup screens that many of the Digital choices, that should be valid, are grayed out. Thanks Rick

Service manual: VSX-1120-kYou need to test on this connector for the +7v and -7v. Use 1 of the gnd pins for neg probe.

testing from the pcb board side I have a pattern of 7 pins
3 on top 4 on bottom
pin2 -6.81V pin4 Grd pin 6 GRD Pin1 mic det Pin3 GRD Pin5 +6.81 Pin7 Mic output
So yes I get +- 6.81 volts
So I'm curious, Do you remember the outcome the last time you saw this?
Thanks again

Alright. I spent some time going over these schematics and it looks like we need to test on the DAC LOW ASSY board. Is this board accessible for testing?

So I'm curious, Do you remember the outcome the last time you saw this? Thanks again Yes, but it was on a different model receiver. Had to change a lot of parts. Hopefully this is not your case.

Is this board accessible for testing? Well I do not have the ribbon cables that allow it to be removed, connected, and powered. What do I need to test more specifically? Searching w Google I can't even find the 4 cables for sale anywhere....CN2101, CN2102, thru 2104 If I need to test something on the board, that'll be very hard, w/o these cables, but I can easily access the connectors on the rear edge for testing.
