Hi all ive noticed some variations in the main mother board between my 2001 model and my 2005 model, there is a couple extra plugs for one, and a couple capacitors are different. Can anyone elaborate further on this? Looks like a serious job to swap it out, so id want a very good reason to do it first!!

Hi Case, It is pretty simple to remove the mainboard, even without compromising projector's position. You only have to remove 8 screws. The mainboard is fixed to the boards-cage in the back of the machine. So you have to remove the convergence tray, unplug all the tubes-connections with the mainboard, unplug the quad HV cable from the splitter and remove all the boards in the back ( the mainboard is thin and will seriously bend under the weight of all boards, otherwise). The thin EHT feedback wire ( white teflon coax ) will have to be de-soldered too, else you won't be able to remove the cage. Now dismount the plastic sides of the projector and remove the four screws, on each side, like in the pics I took. When the cage can move free, just slide it a bit in the direction of the tubes-house and carefully pull the back end out. Yes the newer versions have some extra components and connectors but not relevant for HT use. Both are interchangeable.

Thanks for that Hulio So you reckon there would be not much point?

Indeed. If no mainboard-related problems, glycol leaks, damaged tracks or huge run-time differences between the two mainboards, let it be.

One has 8,000 hours and the other has 22,700

Well, than is maybe worth swapping. You'll have to tweak the width coils again.

Take in consideration that when the controller is changed, the real run-hours count of the machine is gone. Look at the identification menu on both projectors. The serial number there should match the one on each board ( and on the sticker in the back ). If the numbers are different, the controller does not belong to that projector. Also, if the serial nr. on the ID menu is -------, that controller was a spare replacement board ( R763125K or R7631255K ) not belonging to any projector.

Yeah this controller came with that set and is original, the other one is matching numbers too.

Hulio, what do all the capacitors on this board do and what effect will there be on the set with these failing? Are they the same on all versions of this board?

Sorry Case, I've been a couple of times here but for some reason, I haven't seen your question. No, the caps are definitely not the same on all main boards. Or better said, not all main boards have those caps installed. On the old style boards, only C1 and C2 are mounted (mains filter). The newer style board, have 16 additional caps and they are pretty critical in case of failing. Here their purpose:
C3 = fan back-middle C4 = fan back-left C5 = fan back-right C32= -19V C33= +17V C34= +30V C35= -40V C36= -9V C37= +12VD C38= +12V C39= +210 C40= HTHD C43= focus low C44= +conv C45= -conv C46= focus hi

The extra caps are under the SMPS and horizontal boards. Here the schematics for both, old and new versions. The latest Cine 9 and all Ruco DTV1200's have them, starting with revision 9 of the newer board R7631461. Old style mainboard.pdf (403.16 KB)New style mainboard.pdf (414.74 KB)

Yeah my newer 909 have them. Is there any advantage to swapping for that reason?

Swapping the mainboard for those caps only doesn't make sense. They were ment to accommodate the following improved boards: PFC R7631427 SMPS R7631427 SMPS2+G2 R7631437 Focus R7631395 Conv. R7631375 Controller R7631255 I guess your newer BR909 have those boards (i remember your newer style SMPS2+G2 board), so keep them there. If you put the mainboard only in your CineMax, it won' t be an improvement.
