I have picked one of these up and I "repaired" it as in a previous thread. But, there is a another issue with it and I'm not sure, what could be the problem. The remote works only from a few inches(~6"). If I take the whole thing apart, the range is around a foo and a half. I have tested the remote with new battery, tried another remote(from a 636 model) and it is the same. The IR LED, is a three pin type. One leg has the 3.3V as it should, second leg is the ground and the third is the signal, which shows 3.24V and if I press the remote's button, the voltage drops for a second. I have compared the voltage readings, from a 636 and they are the same. The LED could be bad? IR LED part # IRM-3638M3S28 I'm not sure what can be wrong.

Swap the led from the 636 and see if it cures it.
