Oh, and when you activate flash and you get the drop down that ask "allow" or "allow remember" just choose allow or it will automatically activate flash on that site every time you go there.

Yes, thank you for your effort! Your method works, but I am now really disappointed... I see when automatic updates are done to any software the things that were working before are tending to break (but if you do not upgrade the lack of support will kill you anyway), and adding only fancy useless new features to it... I'm really considering going back to internet explorer, I haven't used it in ten years, lol

Ok, an interesting sequel. I ended up not entirely disabling the falsh plugin, instead shoot down the plug-in container, when it lags. But now it even hangs up without any incarnation running of plug in container or flash plugin in task managger...

Why would you think flash is causing your problem then?

Well, I'm not sure of course, but as we found out this hanging up was always solved, by killing the plug-in container, but now on some ocassion there is no plug-in container to kill, but still hanging up, and this is still only with firefox.

A couple things you can try.
1) Bring up task manager and at the bottom select "show all processes" and see if there is anything funny in there now.
2) Clear your browser history if you have not already.
3) Do a disk cleanup.
4) If you think the sluggishness is just Firefox you can do a "Firefox reset" and see if it helps.
5) Download and run Combofix. This will find and remove many hidden things causing problems.
Post back how you make out.

After running the combofix it seems the freezings are less common now, they don't disappeared entirely, but much less than earlier (once or twice a week vs. once or twice a day)

Have you defragged in a while? How many partitions do you have? Did you try a Firefox reset?

I have two HDDs, running multiple OS (Win7/XP) the win 7 (that I use most) has an own HDD with a single partition. I have O&O defrag running in the background all the time. Interestingly the win XP system which is a totally different installation, though the firefoxes are synced, that also generates the problem, but I use that much less... I haven't reset firefox yet.

If you did a firefox reset then I would find it difficult to believe the problem lies in Firefox. However, you stated that Firefox is synced to both OS so I'm wondering if it is reset in both OS's. Is it? Also, did you redo the flash option in add-ons after the reset?

So did a reset on both OS's firefox, but didn't use much since then. I don't use the flash blocker for a while, figured it doesn't really matter, it only blocks those flash contents that I want to watch/use anyway... On a side note, I still think the problem is somewhere around firefox, since on the Chrome I also use abp, it obviously uses the same adobe flash core, and also synced on the two OS, but that never gave me a similar problem.

I didn't mean Flashblock. I meant the other settings you did. But, I see there is an ABP for Firefox also so why not give that a try.

Well, I have been using ABP for the firefox quite a while. What is interesting, ABP for Chrome can also block flash contents inherently, but not in firefox, there, you have to point on every flash content you want to block.

So, I never figured out what is the remedy, but the HDD I used for the Win 7 was a rather sluggish WD caviar SE 80GB HDD, now it had been upgraded to a 120GB SSD, although the Win 7 was reinstalled too, but didn't got the poup so far...
