ok So I am starting on this unit while I wait for the parts of the VSX.
So I did not test much. It powers up all controls seem to work from the changes on the front display.
With tuner on there is no sound on any channels .
There is a small square heat sink on right back side( looking at face plate) under the HDMI board that is warm.
the main chip on that board gets warm as do some of the other chips.
Conector JL8002B has 14 VDC to the two points that should be 12 VDC from what I can tell as it is coming from the PCB board under the HDMI board and that connector has the markings on it.
I don't have any HDMI unit to test on it yet. Unless I take it out from my theater system. And no display to test it on either.
So lets go for the sound now.
EDIT: the post it on the unit when I got it let me know there was no sound or HDMI input.

You probably have the dreaded DTS chip problem. tokejo just did a reflow on one of his Onkyo's. I will link him here and maybe he can suggest a good way to do it.

I could try to het the chip up. I was just looking at his thread the HDMI board looks similar to mine.where his voltage regulator daughter board is the Inductor and caps have the same location and designation. At least on the little section he took pics of. I was looking at that thread , but not with extream curiosity. Athanasios

Well then try heating up that chip. Putting some flux around the chip so it hopefully sucks it under helps. Just don't bump the board or move that chip when it is hot. If the solder balls are smeared it becomes useless.

Should I try it in the Receiver or remove it? I am having a heck of a time removing the one Power ribbon cable i mention in the OP.
there are two ball chips the big one that gets warm and the other smaller one which has DTS on it. The larger DTS chip is a pin type.

Only the BGA type would be a problem. Most likely the DTS one. I would take it out of the receiver But you can gamble how you like,.

Thanks again Mac and tokejo !!!

Good to hear. Give it a good test out along with the HDMIs and let us know how it does.

I figured out how to turn on all speakers. They all work!! Now just need to test HDMI but I am confident the re balling worked. this unit will be my Pre amp in my theater if I like the sound over the adcom non HDMI pre amp I now use.
Unit 2 i will start next has the power cord cut. I'll wire in a new one and continue that repair in this thread unless you suggest I start a new one.

See what the symptoms are after you plug it in. If they are the same then continue here. If they are different then start a new thread.

I had a three prong extra new I bought for something I forgot about. So i spliced it to the cut wire with solder and some heat shrink. I left the GND not connected tot he chassis as I don't think it help any if I did. Powered it up and the speakers show up on the Screen. Hmm, hook up the speakers and it works with FM!! So this one so far seems like it works as well!! I need to get HDMI connect to both of these. But I'm doing well so far!!! Athanasios

Receiver 2 that had the cut cord had intermittent audio and has solid video from HDMI . Tuner audio still works. After running it a bit with video the audio is now gone completely. Might need the DTS chip re balled . Will do that and report back. If the issue remains I'll start a new thread. EDIT: One more thing I noticed that is software related I think. The second receivers volume designations are only positive. that is they do not go to negative Db's like the first unit. is this a menu option possibly? Nashou

Update.
I re-balled the DTS chip on the second 707, once again at 291 cº hot air setting and all works on the HDMI front. Video and Audio.
Thanks Mac!
