I have a 2003 Gulfstream Sun Voyager with only 3700 miles on it. STill in excellent condition. Tried starting generator yesterday to run an AC unit. Noticed that I had no power. Always worked before. Generator starts and runs fine, breakers were all on. Had my uncle look over it, who knows a lot about mechanical stuff. We put a meter on the gen lines coming into teh transfer switch, no power while it was running. Every few minutes though we could hear the engine slow a little for a few seconds, then smooth out. during one of these sessions we had the meter on the lines and we had 120 volts, but only for those few seconds until the engine smoothed out. we took the cover off the electronics of the gen and after starting it, noted that the red led on the voltage regulator was not lit. after another few minutes when the engine sounded like it was under load again, the red led lit up, again just for a few seconds, then went back off. Uncle thinks the regulator is bad. Anything else we should check or just try a new regulator first?

It could be the regulator. But for any trouble shooting I would need your model number.
