Hello all
My Onkyo TX NR 818 has a Check SP Cable Problem :-(
It takes a "BANG" and i see smoke and smells bad.
I can turn on the Receiver and i will test it with the speakers.
Most probably is a faulty ELKO or Power Amp.
I am looking for the correct spare parts to repair it

I have uploaded the service manual for this unit in the service manual section.

Most likely, one of the channels is blown. Start measuring the final transistors for short. Test all the parts, at that channel(pre amp section as well). Elektrotanya has a bunch of schematics(you need to wait, until the Get manual will show up/two downloads per day)

When you go to the "audio" section, near the top I made a section for service manuals. In there is the Onkyo folder to start. Others can be added.

Great. I have the 636, 646, TX-RZ610/656, but I can't add it, because the size is to big. I have other ones as well, some Pioneer VSX-1122-k, Harman Kardon AVR1700, AVR171/230.

Thank you for the offer. None of the manuals on here are stored on the forum itself. They are stored on a hosting site (currently One Drive) and then just the link is posted. So you could have your own One Drive account (or other hosting site) and just post the link. The one I am using is getting full and I was not sure if I wanted to pay money for more storage since the forum already costs me annual fees. I don't mind the annual forum fees for now but not sure how much more I am willing to invest to keep it going. So post as many links as you like and I will help if you need assistance.

The Receiver only goes in Zone2. In zone1 the Receiver goes off immediately.
One elko and 4 Transistors are failed.
Can anyone Tell me how the disassemble the failed Power amp toncjange the elkos and the Transistors .
Or Can i run the Receiver without the Power amp.

Pretty much, you will have to disassemble it completely. I have never had that model, but usually I remove the fan first, than the HDMI board, after unplugging/pull in out all the connectors/ribbon cables. All the screws at the back(except the ground). After that, the board that has the speaker outputs. Also, unplug some connectors. Than I remove the vertical board on the side of the receiver, than the big vertical board(pre-amp section). Unplug transformer and any other connector from the base board, that may be on the base board. Usually there are two plastic stand-offs that need to be pinched with some small pliers, to release them. One of them, usually is between the two main capacitors. Remove all the screws on the side of the receiver, b the heatsink and some at the bottom of the receiver under the heatsink. Usually there are two screws holding the heatsink, inside the receiver close to the transformer(other end of the big heatsink). At this point, the whole base board should come out. In your place, I would take some pictures. At this point, I could do this with closed eyes, but first time, it could be a daunting task.

I know it looks bad now, with so many things in there, but believe me, it's not that bad. I'm not aware of anything like that. Connectors fit only in one spot, you can't mix them up. On the HDMI board each connector should have a designation as well, like Fan, etc. Plastic board holders can go, only in a certain spot, where there is a hole. Screws are all the same, except the HDMI board ones, they are machined screws. Pay attention, to the AM/FM antenna ribbon cable orientation, in the connector. You don't have to remove the transformer, power supply, the whole front assembly. Take pictures.
