Hello everyone,
I come desperately seeking help. I have been doing my best to repair my receiver from my own stupid mistake from reading other posts and learning my system, however I have hit a wall and can not diagnose what component/s are still damaged.
Backstory on how I blew it..
Setting up the system in my new apartment I was very idodically stripping wires over the receiver. Power was on and playing music, a piece of copper fell into the receiver, the power adrubtly shut off and smoke appeared.
Desperately reading online I found the master reset sequence and tried it. More smoke I’m guessing from overloaded components being fried.
After more smoke I tried again hoping for an error code that I could follow to the issue, instead the receiver turned off and the mcacc light started blinking.
Broke it all down and found I blew a transistor, replaced the transistor and tried the reset again with the same blinking mcacc light as a result.
Broke it all down again, found a fried resistor and a second fried transistor.
Ordered the correct parts and now today I received, replaced, and tried the reset.
All looked well and I had high hopes for success, but as I reset the receiver I saw smoke coming from the channel again and upon examining I realized I fried the newly installed resistor.
I am not sure where to head from here. I will be reexamining the board looking for more damaged components but I am at a loss as to what could be causing the problem.
A little about me, I’m a hobby level enthusiast. I enjoy my surround sound system for music and I can’t afford to just replace my receiver.
I have a meter and can test anything people think of.
I’d love to have any ideas or suggestions that come to mind.
Thank you all in advance for reading as well as for any help.
P.S.
Won’t be making that rookie mistake again. Shouldn’t have made it in the first place considering I’ve had this receiver for 10 years and know better.
