So I have this mobile for some time now, and as I am not a mobile geek I am still satisfied with this phone, except that the battery is showing signs of getting weak (the phone is about 5 years old now). I know I can buy "new" battery, my concern is I guess the production of these batteries ceased a while ago, so shops are simply selling leftover stock, now what can I expect from a battery sitting on a shelf for years without charge?

Hi,
If a Lithium Ion battery is left in storage without charge it will most likely be completely dead as deep discharge will damage this type of battery. It should be left in storage with a charge between 60-80%. Then it will experience a self-discharge of about 1-2% per month. In this case it still could be healthy after several years. I wouldn’t accept a battery sent to me if it showed no voltage at arrival. If arrived with more than 70% of its nominal voltage, I would give it a try. Interrupt the charging cycle at 80-90% for the first few cycles...
Kind Regards, barclay66

Hi,
I found a broad range of original and second source batteries on ebay. The second source ones should be new. Pricing range between 4-20€...
Kind Regards, barclay66

Yeah, this is what I saw as well, not that spending ~10€ would bring me down, but I want to spend the money well

I bought an original (NOS?) battery off german ebay, it did not arive, so I got back the money... Bought the second one also from german ebay from a different seller, this however arrived, it measured 3.7V cell voltage on arrival and appeared to have 42% charge upon testing, I've only charged it twice (between ~30-90%). So far so good. But as it seems the up time did not change drastically, in fact just before the new cell arived the old battery produced some of the longest up time ever, so the phone itself may have some part in this as well. The old battery is noticably more puffy than the new one however.
