Pressing those two buttons then the power gets you to hear clicks and a flash of the display. But nothing more. Also you can still hit the power button after for a few seconds to make the relays click.
Is this some type of protection mode like the Pioneers have?
Athanasios
EDIT: I labeled the amp wrong can a mod alter the title to RX-A800. I forgot the A

I was able to reach down into the amp section and probe it with my DMM set to diode test. All the amps on the right side, looking at the unit from the back, of each channel are shorted . All the left side amps are ok.
Seems odd or is this normal for some amps?

You may have a shorted B+ or B- line. I will look it up tomorrow. Get me some location id's if you can for more specifics.

Looks like you are going to have to pull 1 to see if it is the output or the circuit.

Ok Mac. I'm adding some photos here for you to compare to the A700 schematics you have. I think I'll have to remove all boards to get to the amp board or maybe take the back panel apart and slide it out. Nashou

Is it still showing short on multiple outputs legs? Yeah I tested again before i took out the HDMI board. But now I am checking with HDMI board out and i am getting different reading compared to the neighbor chip. One reads (Q1050C) .5xx between pins in both directions( diode mode) and the other( Q 1050A) reads .997 one way and the other way reads .112 but first starts out at .000 then rises to the .112 all chips read .003 between outer pins. Ok now I tested again, its hard to get in there and some pins are reading .000 right away and stay there then when i recheck them they start at .000 then rise to .133 or higher.

Can you see the part numbers on those outputs so I can start looking at some schematics?

Sometimes they will read like that if the caps still have some charge. I'm working on a board right now myself so responses may be a little slow.

An onkyo RT 270C o got from ebay for 70 bucks. Cam with remote to my surprise and the AM antenna and Audyssey mic but its cracked the top off, I can fix that. But the rear is pushed in maybe not too bad. I'll open it up while you do what you have to do and see how bad it is hopefully no boards are cracked. nashou

Fricken wonderful. My board has become a real pain in the ass. So where are we here? Sorry about your board, what receiver is it from? Nothing new cant find shorts on the pins while the board is in and HDMI board out. Re connected some connectors from/to hdmi board and re tested but same as with board out. It is a pain to get in there and I really need to get a work light that can shine onto the dark areas of the amp so i can see what I am doing, or grow a third arm to hold a flash light Taking a break too right now. Do you think your schematics are the same for my A800? Athanasios
