TL;DR - Onkyo No sound amp, magically started working sound on zone 2, need help.
Hey all,
So basic story I got a HT-R592, bought from Middle East in 2015, and in 2019 it stopped giving sound output. After a few hours of research found out it has got the all known "Onkyo No Sound Error". So as you know by this time warranty and the special extended warranty is finished. There is absolutely no one who can fix it in my country, there is no dealer either. So, I decided to contact the place where I bought it from and they ghosted me for 2 years, and finally when I got proper hold of them I ordered the board.
And in 2020, I was fed up with the amp and because no professional repairman was available, I decided to give it to a dude who had some knowledge about electronics. He didn't know anything about DSP and stuff like that, but what he did know was capacitors, transistors and Crystals. Fast forward 2 days and replaced a dead crystal next to the DSP 1 chip. Well, I came home and tried it, still same error, but there was hope because now the HDMI audio worked as in, if I use HDMI Thru to use my TV speakers, then the audio is by passed and sound comes from my TV (this did not work before).
Also would like to tell you that when I checked the Version and tried diagnostics nothing unusual happened, except the fact that DSP version was ".". I am no professional but that probably means dry connection and maybe I should try reballing it. Well I hadn't got contact of the service center yet, so I just decided to hit it with a high wattage light and a hair dryer, none of that was successful, and it still showed question marks. I didn't wanna push the heat too much either because after all HDMI Video and Audio was perfectly working, so it would be a pity if that got messed up too.
So that's the story and basically the reason I posted here was because something strange happened today. I just decided to connect the zone 2 pre-out to my other amp. While giving direct HDMI video and Analog Audio to the HT-R592. Imagine my surprise when it was actually working. So I decided to hook up 2 speakers to the Powered Zone-2 and its working, perfectly I might add. (I tried both of these before, none of it worked, not even Analog Audio Input worked.) So I decided to check the version now
to see and to my surprise it didn't show question marks for DSP version. The result is attached below.
So, I might have hope, but I tried connecting the usual 7 speaker conf. but sadly none of those speakers give output. So magically zone 2 somehow works. So what I should I do from here onwards, the board costs a lot incl. shipping. I could buy a good amp for that price. So, please someone help me, what should I do? Try replacing more transistors and capacitors? Or maybe try seriously reballing? At this point I am close to giving up, so If you tell me to dip it in hot water and give it a cleanse I would literrary do it. lol.
Thanks.
