I am flooded with CD player repairs now.. this is a fancy Sony SCD-777ES. The problem is: from cold start it reads plain CD-s well, and reads the plain CD layer of the SACDs too, but not reads the SACDs, however, after ~1,5 hours of continuous playing it reads SACDs too! This machine has an odd dual pickup setup, one for the SACD one for the plain CD, not sure how to narrow down the problem. I started with checking the supply lines and there is no ripple on any of them, and they all have the right voltage too. Any suggestion what to check?

What I am curious about is, when it is cold and wont read SACD disc, is the SACD laser firing?

Well that is something what I couldn't check yet, this is a top loading player, the pick up mechanism is fixed, and the spindle motor is moved instead, there are multiple safety sensors for checking if the door is closed and is the disc stabiliser in place? I haven't figured out yet how to override them.

Is that the specific number of yours or is it a SCD-XA777ES or SCD1-777ES

This is just "SCD-777ES" I was also confused about the manuals, but it seems the manual for the SCD-1/777ES covers this machine pretty well, I think the SCD-1 just has differently shaped power button, and offers balanced signal out.

I have similar problem with my SCD-777es too. When it starts from cold, it usually has difficulty to play SACD. It just got stuck many times before the song can be finished. But the machine play SACD flawless after around 1.5 hours of warm-up. Is there anything wrong with the electronics of the player? Or does this mean the laser head is going to be dead soon?

The connectors of the pick-up were reconnected a few times due to measurements, and once it just started to play SACDs from cold as well. And is working fine since then, without replacing anything in it.
