I'm trying to fix a Pioneer VSX-922 which has no audio (digital or analog). All other functions are working OK (video, network, USB etc).
The firmware is displayed as 1-188076***140, split into sections thus:
1 = Big Version number of Main com (EMMA)
188 = Small Version number of Main com (EMMA)
076 = Version number of Sub com (EVENT)
*** = Version number of DSP
140 = Version number of BridgeCo
So it looks like the DSP firmware is missing or corrupted. After checking that all voltages on the HDMI board are correct, and replacing the elctrolytics around the DSP chip just in case, I tried updating the firmware from a USB drive, using version "AVR_1_188076019140".
The update starts OK, and after a time goes to 30%, then after a longer time to 45%, then after an interminable time to "Update Error 1". I've tried using various USB keys with the same result. I tried updating from the network, but it seems that is no longer available as it gives a network error (I've checked that other network services can be accessed OK).
I've managed to dump the 2048 kB image from the DSP flash (W25Q16CVSSIG), and even managed to erase and write it back, but nothing changed, and I don't know if the image is complete and correct.
If anyone has the DSP flash image (.bin) for this receiver, I'd be very grateful to receive it.
Otherwise, I suspect that the DSP chip itself (D808K013CPTP400-K) may be faulty. This isn't a BGA chip, it's a 176 pin quad IC, so removing and replacing it might be possible with my hot air station, but acquiring a working version and then removing and replacing it may be beyond my budget and capabilities respectively.
I would appreciate and any help with further diagnosis or things to try, as the receiver is in excellent condition otherwise and I'd like to get it going again if possible.
Thanks, Jon.
