Hello, Experts! I am not a professional in repairs, but like hobbyist. Had some success earlier with other models (NAND repair, etc). Brought a NR535 to try to fix it.
Symptoms: 1. No sound 2. All versions are shown, DSP, MCPU etc. 3. WiFi, BT, USB are OK. 4. BT/USB try to play file but play time is at 00:00 and not playing.
Tried to update/force update FW/ downgrade it/upgrade again. All shows Complete!
Serial console is working, many info from D830. It has D830K013DZKB4 (newer one? should not have issues?)
Searching for info from where to start diagnosing it.

Also, I believe, this series do not have speaker indicators. i can hear some relays clicking during boot up. In test menu Protection is not active.

If the all FW versions are shown, then foucus on DAC digital input lines like BCK, LRCK, SD0..SD4, MCK. Also, use analog inputs like CD and use DIRECT mode. You should hear relay click sound, 4-5 seconds after power on.

What is strange. I use FM as a test. 1. after start output relay is not active. Can't change to "pure audio" or choose listening modes. 2. I press USB, I hear output relay connect. 3. now I can choose listening modes/ pure audio. also I hear FM very quietly when volume is MAX. so there is Mute enabled or problem with inputs. might be the DAC. will read service manual on this part. What is not clear for me, I get test info other than in service manual. do not know hot to use it. Manual show 8 steps in AUDIO debug mode, i get 6 steps. //cant upload image, something not working

OK traced AMUT to MICOM. Z2MUTE enables/disables on MICOM and AMUT always active on MICOM AMUTE Control (AMUT_C) I see MICOM EEPROM was tampered with (soldered). Maybe anyone has good dump for this EEPROM Q153? Update. managed to read MICOM EEPROM. Q153. I could not find this file online. might become only one online. Mine might be BAD, so use it carefully. Update. I monitored serial console and AMUT behavior. If I start USB player (song is stuck at 00:00) I get AMUTE disabled. so MICOM is working and does control AMUT.
I see this lines in serial: [NETAPP]: [R_SNK : send_mute_control] >>>> MUTE-ON [NETAPP]: [R_SNK : send_mute_control] >>>> MUTE-OFF and it is physically working.
but if I switch other source like CD/FM I do not see command "[NETAPP]: [R_SNK : send_mute_control] >>>> MUTE-OFF" and mute stays active.

Those are DSP output data lines. MCK should be around 28MHz, LRCK 3.42Mhz, BCK 3.8MHz (or similar value) SD0 is for L and R channel, SD1 SL/SB and so on. Make sure to set Onkyo to ALL CH Stereo mode when testing all those lines. Now, I rememebr working on tx-nr414 some time ago with no sound issue, where DSP wasn't the problem. Also, when I tried to play some music via usb port, play time would either stay at 00:00 or behave really erratically. Long story short, I found that DIR chip (Q301, PCM9211) was the culprit. Not sure if this is the same case with your board, but I think it's worth mentioning.

Maybe You know if i could get some more info from console? Maybe some commands to see if DIR/DAC are working, responding. I would like to try to use Montavista more for diagnostics I think DSP should expect some response from DIR and show errors.

ok continue to diagnose. Q301 PCM9211 X171 no generation. I see pin39 +3.28V, pin40 nothing (0V) Q1004 PCM1690 LRCK 3.36V; BCK some short repeated digital activity; SD0-SD3 no activity; ADSP_MCK nothing (0V), measured at D830 R3208
Will try to lift Q301 to see if MCK will be present. I believe it should come from DSP and Q301 is killing it. Have NR609 dead DSP, will check for Q301.

Not fixed 100%. Hear noice when changing volume. Sometimes hangs on mute off during source switching and i hear loud pops, noises.
Can this PCM9211 be also faulty?
Also i see sometimes it plays sound with volume 0 and then has no reaction to volume adjustment. Numbers on display do change, but volume is the same.

Ok volume problem, i think, was caused by some ealier repairs on r2a15218fp. Volume clk pin was not soldered. I did resolder all r2a15218fp pins. Found some more loose pins. Will test run the performance of this receiver.

Also check r2a15218fp's both voltage rails.
