Ok volume problem, i think, was caused by some ealier repairs on r2a15218fp. Volume clk pin was not soldered. I did resolder all r2a15218fp pins. Found some more loose pins. Will test run the performance of this receiver. Great find..please update us regarding this. Do you always have clock signal on pin 50?

PIN50 has VOLCLC only when Volume knob is rotated (if i remember correctly) i will disassemble it again and will check. I still sometimes get silence form all outputs. Looks like this R2A15218FP not feeling well. There are some broken PCB traces near it (unknown history, brought it as "not working").

I had the same symptoms with another unit but turns out the R2A15218FP was not the issue. I was asking because mine didn't have clock or data signal going into the IC. Turns out this IC is communicates or even controlled by the CPU through pins 50 and 49 and CPU will not transmit data or clock to this IC if there is another issue on the board. You should try checking the DSP first. You can do the debug procedure, you can find in Youtube or in the service manual and check if the DSP code is not messed up. tjmotter has a great tutorial and discussed in detail in one of his thread regarding DSP. I'm still getting my mind around it but it looks like most of Onkyo's no sound issue is somewhat related to the DSP, either the 1st DSP or 2nd one. It's a PITA but it is what it is.

Sorry i dont understand what are you suggesting. NR535 has new version of DSP and has no problems with it.

Sorry i dont understand what are you suggesting. NR535 has new version of DSP and has no problems with it. I guess so. Mine was another unit actually an Arcam AVR400 FMJ, first suspect was the R2A, apparently this IC is present in many other brands. It had no clock, upon checking nearby ICs, the Codec had rusted out terminals. Still waiting on the Codec replacement before I go back to the R2A. Also, I tried injecting audio tune - I have this handy signal generator on the inputs the said R2A, audio is visible on the inputs (oscilloscope) but nothing on the output of the R2A. Until that codec arrives. I'm on the same boat. I don't actually suspect the R2A but it could be. Are you planning to replace it? Please update us. Thanks.
