Hi Guys, My JVC DL HD550 powers up. Sometimes long enough till the lamp turns on, and projects the “DLA” logo, then dies. As in completely dead, no fans, no flashing LEDs. I unplug the power then plug it back and I can try again. According to the service manual if an internal fan (exactly which one is not specified, but probably the one cooling the main circuit board) fails, it goes into an “emergency stop” and no LED flashes. I highly suspect that this is the issue. Attached is the page from the service manual. Id upload the manual here but its over the 1MB limit. I suspect if the fan to the main board is broken, it is smart to turn everything completely off because control of other more dangerous stuff like the main lamp wont be possible if the cpu hangs. I will open up the projector tomorrow. My question is, if the fan is indeed the problem, can I simply replace the fan with any similarly sized one? How does the cpu know the fan is faulty? Is it a simply monitoring the current draw? I am afraid that the fan i miht replace it with may not have the same current draw characteristics. I havent ruled out an intermittently faulty power supply or cold solder yet, but for now the fan seems to be most likely. thanks in advance. Attachments:

Ok. Its fixed now. The problem was the power supply. The main switching IC that generates power for the CPU is broken and shuts down inexplicably when warm. The chip is TNY274. No blinking LED to tell user whats wrong because main cou has no power to do so. Its as if you suddenly unplugged the device. I hope this helps others.
