I recently got my hands on this unit (used). It powers on fine and everything appears to work correctly except, I can only get sound from one channel (surround back). The rest of the outputs are silent. After trying out all the basic troubleshooting methods (reset, settings etc) I have started to suspect the cause to be the infamous onkyo HDMI board DSP issue.
However a few questions:
- This being a pretty recent receiver (2021), I had assumed HDMI board DSP issues affected older units with defective chip and problem had been resolved for newer units. - Can the faulty HDMI board affect ONLY some channels? I would assume all channels would be affected. - I can hear relays click on startup and it shows the speaker layout diagram correctly on front display, further I can hear relays click as I change through different speaker formats (stereo, 5.1 channel, etc)
This being a newer receiver, I cannot get service manual anywhere (and, yes it is out of warranty).
I would really appreciate any help or thoughts on weather my diagnosis is correct or the issue lies elsewhere. (I am truly hoping it is not DSP issue!)
Thanks!

Maybe the mute section has blown components? I had an RZ800 repair on this forum, a very long one, that had this issue(did not have sound at all). Tjmotter helped me to diagnoze. I have found a lot of transistors that were bad. Also the main Ic and some opamp ics as well. Not sure if these new units are similar to the older ones, I haven't seen one yet.

Thanks tibimakai. I read your post on RZ800. Looks like I have a lot of things to diagnoze on RZ50. Your thread on RZ800 will certainly be helpful in this journey. I Will start with checking mute section as you suggested.

Onkyo(other brands too) is using CS49844 since like 2016. I would check all digital data output signals like ADSP_MCK, SD0 (LR channels), SD1 (SL,SR channels) ect..(pins 56-63). If all these signals are present, then focus on DAC outputs. Have you also checked audio from pre-outs phono sockets?

The RZ50 uses a completely different design. I am not saying that there isn't a problem with the DSP however, I can guarantee you that the it is not "the dreaded DSP issue" that most others complain about. First off, the point in the design that failed on the older models was a TI DSP chip that performed multiple tasks. Those chips were discontinued and replaced by an entirely new DSP subsystem in the later RZ models including the 50. In these newer models, Onkyo still used a TI BGA part but it is COMPLETELY different and is responsible only for network/usb/bluetooth etc. functions. The actual DSP is now a dedicated device that communicates with the TI chip but is 100% dedicated to performing DSP functions.
Net Net, you need to look elsewhere for your problem. It could be the DIR chip or a power issue to the op-amps that form the pre-amp stage or as Tibimaki suggests, it could be an issue with the MUTE circuit. On that note, you will find a couple of diodes near the main CPU that you should probably check. One of them acts as protection for the main cpu from the mute circuit.
