Before I got MP VIM & MP VNB, I was using VNB 50-2038-01P on blue tube, VNB 2-270340-01B on green & red tubes. I have another VNB 81771-02H but it's not compatible with other VNB. So no choice but to use modified 2038 for my lug tubes.
Once I received MP match set, I change the VNB first but can't tell the difference but the light output is not affected.
After that, I changed the VIM and was shocked to see the light output decreased significantly that I need to push the contrast, brightness, G2 and Drive setting. Initially I thought that the MP VIM is a faulty set. But now after adjusting Moome V3 input card for contrast setting, no longer 0.7v setting, and after eye calibration again, I found the picture to be very clean, more detail, more natural color etc... And very happy with the unit now. I will not change back to MP VNB at this moment. Unfortunately, I don't know how to measure the light output right now even though I have eye one colorimeter that I bought many years back. If you could guide me, I can try to measure.

Guys, after getting the same brightness, I find that Mike's VIM is an excellent upgrade as now I can see that the color are better and more natural. The text does not bloom as it used to be before. It's really a great pice of work by Mike. I wonder what the latest VIM picture quality as compared to this one.

Guys,
Yesterday I changed MP VNB with a different VNB (old type on blue & VDC VNB on green & red). Since the picture is still dim, I decided to adjust the contrast on Moore V3 HDMI card by turning counterclockwise.
By doing this, I'm able to get the brightness level and I'm quite glad now.
The only worry I have is that if I change back another VIM, the setting on Moome card is all wrong and I'm not sure how to adjust it back to the correct setting of 0.7v.

Hi Barclay,
I have many spare boards for my 9518LC. The only disappointment is that I thought MP VIM & VNB would be a great upgrade but it seems useless which is my greatest regret now. Unless I can achieve brightness back like normal VIM. As for your Easter holiday trip, do let me know if you're in Malaysia. Looking forward to meet you again someday.

I think it would be difficult to return the VIM back as I have replaced the RCA connectors unless I can find the same original connector and resolder them back. As for Strid I do have plenty of VNB as spares. 3-4 sets, if you can show me the 130ohm, then I could do the improvements. Barclay, Do you have plan to come over in Singapore or Malaysia again? If yes, I could pass both VIM and VNB to you.

Hi mastertech, the internal menus doesn't look dim to me. Only the picture quite dim. My initial contrast & brightness setting is 45 for both. But if you put MP VIM, I need to increase contrast & brightness to 60 but the picture brightness is still not as bright as my normal VIM with setting at 45. But if I increase the contrast further, the picture bloom quite badly, maybe due to lug tubes.
By the way, how do you check the rail voltage?
As for 130 ohm, which component do I need to change?

Just check with the owner that he did not used the 808 for a few years due to lines on the screen. The only thing that is missing from this set is the quad which was taken out by his friend who still owned 909.

Thanks Kurt. I will take the flare magnet then and see if they produce better result. I will try to find out from the owner to see what is the actual problem with this unit.

I wish that someone here could help me to troubleshoot this MP VIM as it will be a waste of money to buy and not doing the job correctly. Another option is to get back to Sparky015 about this VIM not working right but if I can't really fix this, then that might be the last option.

Sad that nothing can be salvage from Barco 808. My thought was 8" tubes would be the same for all but it's not.

Guys, I have someone locally in Singapore that wanted to dispose his non working 808 and have ask me as to whether I would like to take it or he will put it in the thrash. My first thought was whether the magnetics can be used for my Marquee 9518 or maybe take the tubes as spare for my other friend G70. Is 808 and G70 tubes compatible? Secondly, do you think any component from 808 can be use for 9518 marquee to improve picture quality?

I read the link that you provided and saw about dimming issues on the VIM too. I did sent email to Mike earlier last week and was told to check Q2 as well but after replacing Q2, the condition did not improve and that's why I decided to post at CP forum and also this forum hoping someone know how to overcome this issues.
