Okay, I will try to find a starter contactor.
The battery is fairly new, so I can take it to where I bought it for a replacement if it does not hold a charge after I make sure it is fully charged.
Thank you,
Jerry

Ok mr rv.. Been a long time but I finally did the test on my gen set. Answers to your post. Aug 2- 4.6 volts and the breakers and fuse are fine. Aug 6- 4.5 volts and then a test with 86 volts ac. Aug 9 - 9.6 vdc Sept 7 - 24.8 ohms and 9 vdc on cranking. Sorry for the delay to your question but I've been busy working. Installed a new voltage regulator as I had already purchased it before this thread ..... Still no led light at all and no output120. Please continue with diagnosis.. Thank you

I have a Q-55G model #09592-2 genset. I have been following this feed and have tried the first set of test. (note: previous owner installed a new regulator). The voltage from the genset is only 2.3 volts while running. when I excited the number three from top (on regulator) to 12volt supply, the regulator light came on and the genset began producing 110 voltage. What is needed to correct this exciter issue?

After you apply the 12v and you remove the jumper does it still continue to put out the 110v?

Correct. I momentary bridge with 12 VDC and LED turns on and out puts 110 on both legs. I could just rig this but I would like better to find full time fix. Note: the out put is only 2.3 volt AC on both legs before bumping it with 12 VDC. From the earlier posts it would appear this is a low reading?

On pin 3 of the control module, do you have 12vdc when cranking motor?

That wire comes from the output of the starter relay. It is connected to the same terminal as the starter motor and since that is clearly turning then there must be a problem with the wire or maybe corrosion at the connection.

That wire comes from the output of the starter relay. It is connected to the same terminal as the starter motor and since that is clearly turning then there must be a problem with the wire or maybe corrosion at the connection. Two wires originate at the starter solenoid, both terminates at the engine controller. One at JI-1 and the other at JI-13. From this "engine controller" springs the exciter power for the regulator see JI-9. While testing this out, I witnessed a "POPING FLASH" with electronic smoking. I believe it was from this same "engine controller" although I am not completely positive. The engine starts and runs correctly, the regulator will turn on and light up once I excite it with a momentary 12vdc. however no power is being produced. I rechecked the fuse and the breakers and the little black box below and to left of regulator. All are ok. Just what is this engine controller (92234) and is this possibly my smoking gun. If so, where might I purchase one?

Ok, I just looked up the wiring diagram for your specific model and I do see that your model is wired differently then the one I first looked at. So lets continue.
Do you have 12vdc on J1-13 when cranking the engine?

Do you have 12vdc on J1-13 when cranking the engine? I cleaned up all terminals. Used a new tester. Everything is working correctly. 12vdc at JI-13. Thank you for your help. I truly appreciate your assistance and this web site!

Do you mean the generator is fully working or just that you have the correct 12vdc at that terminal?

Do you mean the generator is fully working or just that you have the correct 12vdc at that terminal? This generator is fully functional. Thank you for your assist. I hope to collaborate again with you on a Onan generator with similar issues in the future.

Hello Sir. I have a Generac Q55-g in a 1999 National Dolphin. Runs like a champ, but stopped charging a while back. I have a good amount of mechanical experience as I did heavyline for Ford 1986-1999, which means since I was line I have no idea how electricity works. So to my issue. Runs, first had a dim VR LED, now dead. Nothing at the output plug, so when I follow your instruction, you loose me at 5.5-6 volts after disconnecting #3 wire leads and checking. I do not want to "throw parts" at this and really do not think it is the VR. Any testing instruction you can give past "check for 5.5-6 volts running, I have 0 volts running. Thank you
