Not quite sure what your question is.

There are many Onkyo receivers (earlier ones), the relay coil goes bad. By replacing them, the receiver turns on and works as before. The resistance, should be around 330 Ohms, when it's OK.

Hi. Sorry to be a Necro here but I have the exact same problem as those later on in this thread. My Onkyo 818 has been out of business for a long time due to being out of warranty and not wanting to spend a ridiculous amount of money on a repair. Anyway. Previously I had checked for bad fuses but nothing else. It's a maze in there. Reading through this thread I came to the conclusion the relay could be the problem so I had a look and found it was a 9v relay as mentioned, so I popped the top off it and made it contact. The receiver turned on. After nearly 2 years in the cupboard. So I've ordered a replacement relay but I had to order the SDT-S-112DMR,000 instead of the SDT-S-109DMR2 as they no longer produce them. Non latching is right yes?
Thanks for everyone that contributed in the thread!

hi , i want to thank everyone on this board , i have a tx nr818 that had the hdmi board fixed by onkyo last year 2016 for free on recall , then about a month ago i started having problems with it powering up then it would not power up at all DEAD so i called onkyo told them what problem i have with it they told me they have a buy back program which you have to buy a similar receiver so it would've costed me at least 800.00 dollars so i decided to research this problem and came across this site ,read 14 pages and decided that its probably the 9v relay . i ordered two 12v relays ( an extra one just incase ) and soldered it in place , fired right up , i am so excited now dont have to part with it ( as of yet anyway ) thank you guys so much !!!! Hello Newbie here : I also got the relay problem with the Nr 818, changed it for the same one with 9V coil ( measuring at 150 ohms resistance) it connects for 10 seconds then disconnects and receiver shut off Can mastertech tell me what that can be? is it still relay problem or something else to check ?

Can anyone help for this problem: I change the 9v relay because receiver won't turn on, with a same specs one,i got power for 10 seconds then it shuts down, If i push power button it turns on for 10 seconds with display on volume settings, working, then a relay clicks and shut off Checked all components on PS board they are ok. Thanks for helping

It would be nice, if I knew when he is coming back, because I'm checking in daily, to see if he can help me, with my issue. Nobody else is helping around here.

Ok guys. I can hop in every once in a while so who has what? I have the same problem as the OP here with the AV not powering up at all. Relay was dead (removing the relays case and touching the contacts allowed it to turn on) and once desoldered a 9v battery wouldn't trigger it. But soldering SDT-S-112DMR,000 to it didn't fix it. It still won't turn on. What would be the first thing to check?

Go to the first post in this thread and check your voltages on the PS connector.

Go to the first post in this thread and check your voltages on the PS connector. I've read through it but not really sure in laymens terms how to test the voltages.

Unfortunately right now I do not have the time for beginners level assistance but maybe tibimakai, dobrykamil or someone else can help you with testing description and help at your level.

Hello Mastertech , Glad to have you back, my 818 was not powering , checked components on PS board = find relay coil dead change to a 12 v relay as you recommended, i have stable 12v and can power for 4 seconds then it shuts down, checked many components ( mostly transistors on all boards ) but CAN NOT find any wrong one ( to my knowledge ). i post a help request to you dqys ago; then i read your old posts with guptau and checked the 12v on PS board, with fly wires = Connector JL9000A with GND on #1 and 12v at #3 i got the 12v stable and receiver powers for 4 seconds and stops, when shuttering down 12v surge to 15~16 V and came back to12 V THEN i Happened to touch the #1 pin (GND sub ) of 9000A to the chassis and when i power it stays powered as normal; May i know what is happening , something must lack the grounding but where ? Can you investigate and help please Many th anks to you
