Hey everyone. I recently bought a Onkyo TX-NR646 with no HDMI output. I haven't really checked anything at this point besides resetting everything back to factory settings and updated the firmware to the latest version. The TX-NR646 has a fan inside connected to the HDMI board but does not turn on. Its controlled by the Q7009 chip. I'm looking to know where to start in my diagnosis. I have the service manual and some equipment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I plugged in the HDMI and it gives me the "Resolution Error". I haven't tried audio just yet. When I look at the the display settings it shows me 480p with the resolution error. I also checked the capacitors on the HDMI board and all seemed fine besides one and I replaced it with no solution to my problem. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and re flow the DTS chip to see if that works on this unit?

Okay so I got the board heated up to 50 degrees Celsius and the fan is working properly. I'm going to test measure the HDMI inputs and see what I get.

Where does it say resolution error? On the receiver display?

Yes, on the unit. I even restarted the unit and it says to look at the TV to being first use, nothing shows up on the TV.

Do you get +5V at pin 18 of the HDMI Out port? I would start checking power regulators that provide voltage to Q8000. One of my TX-SR333's has had similar issue, sound was ok but no video. I found that very tiny, +3.3V power regulator was faulty.

Have you done hdmi troubleshooting in debug mode? (page 77 in the service manual)

Hey guys, sorry just now getting back to you. Had to move into a new home and holiday delays! So I was able to do more testing since I have all my equipment taken out. The Sub Output is working while the main out is not but I have audio and it also give me the resolution error for a second then goes away. I did the HDMI troubleshoot and I am looking at 1080P/60 16:9 0P 24b #, I then hit enter and I get 11:0000480010D. I checked both 18 pins on the HDMI outputs, both read at +5V. What should I check next?

As already suggested, about all you can do is test the voltages of all the regulators that power Q8000.

Thanks I must have overlooked that. On the schematics, what do I need to look for?

Is Q8000 accessible with the receiver all assembled so you can power it on and test for voltages on the pins?

Well I don't hold much confidence in that the problem is in this location but you got to start somewhere. So set your DMM to DC voltage, ground the neg probe and turn it on and test the following pins on Q8000 and let me know what you get.
pin: 7____ 38___ 39___ 41___ 44___ 113___ 130___

7 - 1.14 38 - 3.37 39 - 3.37 41 - 3.37 44 - 1.14 113 - 3.37 130 - 3.37

Those all look fine. Have you tried HDMI pass through with the receiver off?
