Only thing the unit has trouble with are things having to do with audio, like running test tones. Won't move off of left speaker (first in line) and no audio through the speaker of course. Well the biggest thing are the zeros for DTS firmware. Without any firmware there will be no sound.

I have done a regular update as well, was about 18 minutes. Zero's remained. Last couple of times I have been prompted to do an update it's been the same length (8 minutes) and after it reboots it wants to install what I think is the same update again. So it doesn't fail with an error code but it wants to repeat it.

The firmware version under the settings menu is some concatenation as explained in the SM. Not sure if it's the same one as listed in the diagnostic menus.

Is the dsp version info stored in the chip itself or the spi flash attached to it ?

There's the firmware version before and after the 8 minute update. It's already promoting me to do it again. Attachments:

Factory Restore. Will give it a try.

Restore went up to 91% then said Complete! When it rebooted the firmware version had changed but the DTS version was still zero.
A couple things I can think of,
1, the software has been wiped or become corrupted and is useless to the dsp. 2, there is a communication problem. I have a scope so I think I'll be able to see if the bus is at least alive. I know these SPI flash ic's can become problematic at times.

On page 133, number 4 it should show data for each DSP. What does your's show?

I don't have the SM with me, is that the service mode(?) that cycles through the various items showing their software/firmware levels ? If so all four show zero's there too.

Yes, that was it. Well it does seem like a com problem. The only com line I see that is common to all 4 dsp is "DSP RST" or dsp reset. That line comes from the main CPU and there is a 100 ohm resistor (R1560) in that line. You may want to check it. You might get lucky. It should be near the main CPU (IC151) off of pin 86. If it is ok you may want to check to be sure the cpu is being powered correctly but most likely since the unit functions it most likely is.
Did it show an "Audio PLD" firmware?

Will have to check again for the Audio PLD firmware and will have a look at the resistor on the reset line.
I don't know how the dsp's work but it looks as if the signal is daisy-chained through them. That might explain if any one of them fails then that would kill the signal all together. Doesn't explain how none of them report a firmware level though...

I can't find R1560 the line probably goes through a via to the bottom of the board. However I DO measure 100 ohms from the cpu reset pin to each dsp reset pin so that is not the problem. Here are some pics I took of all the items that have failed or anomalous firmware/software readings in the service menu you mentioned earlier. Quite odd I think.
