Did you read any of the other Eeproms?

I've read all four eeproms but didn't attempt to write any except flash3. That flash now comes back with device ID of all 0xFF's so it may be toast. I have a CH341a programmer and it's currently programming a compatible (I think) SST device but it's taking upwards of an hour to do so.
Maybe I've damaged the programmer somehow. It has been used to program multiple different eeproms in the past without issue.

Fifty minutes later I'm at 50%. I know it's working because previous to this attempt I aborted and the write was partially completed.
Something has to be wrong somewhere but will verify after the write and put the unit back together.

I just checked back and it's done, one hour. Maybe that's right for this chip I don't know...

What I was going to suggest is: if there is a software write protect and it is damaged in your problem bin then try writing a bin from 1 of the other Eeproms to your problem Eeprom and see how well it writes.

IT'S ALIVE! DSP errors gone and sound beautiful sound on the outputs. Attachments:

Well congratulations!! This was a nice fix. So this is a different eeprom, correct? So original was probably bad.

Thanks! The original was at minimum corrupted and by that I mean some of the contents were erased. Perhaps that was a function of it failing. Taken with the fact it stopped responding to the programmer I would surmise you are correct.
It was replaced by an SST 25VF016B. I didn't do a deep dive on compatibility before hand but there was enough there to give it a try.
I think I should do a factory re-init to make sure it won't seize up during the upgrade process before reassembly.

Update: The new 25VF016B has made the receiver angry lol. It failed the Factory Restore test and is now coming back with an Error 1302. The receiver boots again no problem and will even produce audio and video but shuts itself off in about one minute with the Error 1302 again.
Factory Reset works as it should and brings me to the Setup screen but the unit still shuts itself off.
I had enough time to boot into Special Menu or whatever it's called to check the firmwares. It is unable or unwilling to reprogram the DSP3 flash as the reported firmware is the same while the other three have been rolled back to earlier firmware versions.
Can't imagine the receiver is checking the chip ID before writing to it but who knows... I'll have to try and get my hands on a proper replacement.

I see that 1302 is error when writing to DSP3. Hopefully that would mean the DSP3 Eeprom. But if you are going to order that Eeprom, I would probably also order a SDRAM also just in case. I would probably even order a multiplexer (ic515) since it is also directly connected to the Eeprom control lines. They are all really cheap.

Where do you see that information about error 1302 ?

NM I see it on page 197 of the SM.
No matter, last night I replaced the original flash on the programmer and it was recognized, reprogrammed and verified in under five minutes. After reinstalling on the hdmi board the unit survived both the Factory Restore and subsequent Firmware Upgrade processes.
As this is going to be a personal unit and considering the fault/remedy is known I am going to consider this done. I am not yet ruling out obtaining and replacing the macronix flash with a new one but the time has come and I need the space.
Thank you mastertech and srt for your insights and guidance.

You are welcome. Just for future reference, during my research of this model I see that the DSP3 eeprom is available already programmed with the correct DSP3 flash for 6.95 US from encompass under part number 943248103930S with a 6 day lead time. encompass.com/item/12428363/Denon/943248103930S/

I saw that. I actually called to find out if it was indeed programmed but no one could answer that.

In my experience, if it was not flashed it would not be listed as DSP3 and the location id. As you saw, there is a listing for each of the 4 DSP Eeproms. And if you looked further the main DSP ic is listed but only 1 listing for all 4 locations. Same with the SDRAM, 1 listing for all 4 locations. The Eeproms are the only components listed for individual locations and the basic part numbers are the same. This would surely indicate they are flashed.
