Ok you mean to leave the flash ic off the board and reinstall to see if firmware for other dsp's populate ? I didn't see your post and in the meantime I pulled and read the flash for DSP2. Here is that one. https://www.dropbox.com/s/u6ny3jks28cus0g/Marantz%20DSP2_IC264.bin?dl=0 What i mean that remove the 1st DSP flash chip. then try to button combination on AVR front panel to see the DSP version(without installing the 1st DSP flash IC) , if it same as showing ^000 ?

Sry srt I have yet to complete your test. If you've dumped any of the same flashes from your Denon X4300 please post.
I put back the two flashes and reinstalled the board because I have a nagging suspicion that I have bad solder connections beneath the APLD bga. I don't think I can test for that with a meter though but a few times since I've started on this unit I DID get sound from the speakers but I can find no reliable way to make it happen by heating said ic or even cooling it.
I've been reading about jtag boundary scan but now my eyes are just sore. There is a lot of information but mostly on the theory of it. If anyone can explain HOW to use it would be helpful in diagnosing the bga connections from what I've read...
I'm not super confident in my ability to reflow this ic as there are 256 balls and I can easily make a mess of it with my hot air station if not careful. Hard to know which way to go from here.

It looks like I have a problem with DSP3. If I try to scope the spi lines at the bottom of page 16 they are not active. No clock or data lines active and the clock select line is being held low, maybe waiting for data that never comes.
The other three dsp's seem to act as expected returning bursts of data from the flash to the dsp.
I've checked DSP3 for the 1.2v and 3.3v rails and the oscillator is running at 25mhz.
I'm probably going to have to remove the HDMI board again and check the MXl251606E for DSP3 but I can't imagine it failing this way. Any opinions ?

So you are thinking that DSP3 Eeprom may be a problem?

In my limited knowledge I'm not aware of these flash chips failing such that they pull down the clock signal but I guess I have to rule it out by pulling and reading it.
More likely the DSP has failed I would think, or something else connected to it is causing problems but that might be an even longer shot.

Well I would pull it and try reading and writing to it to be sure it is functioning properly. There are also a few resistors in the circuit between the DSP and Eeprom.

Yes I will be checking those too. The ones I can check topside read good but there are several more I can't get to until I remove the board.

Removed the hdmi board and all the relevant resistors check out fine.
Pulled the flash for DSP3 and the dump is suspect. It is missing a large block of code from 0x0000 to 0x0E2A.
There is a flash-specific entry at 0x05E0. It's 0x88 for flash1, 0x89 for flash2 and 0x91 for flash4. I'm going to reprogram flash3 with 0x90 at that address, hopefully these are read as decimal or at least that 90h is the correct value for this flash.

I've patched the .bin but can't get ASprogrammer to unprotect the flash ic in order to program it.
Am I doing something wrong ?

Could be the problem. They are only pennies new. order some.
did you try reading and writing to a different one?

I don't have any of these, will have a look at my junk boards for one or failing that order some.
In the meantime I'm trying to find out how to remove the protection to rewrite the one I have.

Your programmer should be handling the WP of the chip. Especially if the chip is listed in the programmers menu. But that is why I asked if you tried another chip from this unit.
