hello I am a technician for an online reseller. i am new to fixing advanced electronics, most fixes I've ever done involved swaping parts but i am looking to take my knowledge further. anyway my point being i have a pioneer VSX-1020-k receiver when plugged i hear clicking which i assume is either fuses or capacitors operating normally but when powered on it starts up normally for about 4 seconds then shuts off and a red led starts flashing under something labeled PQLS. could anyone possibly guide in the direction of the problem and possible solutions?

The flashing PQLS means DC voltage is being detected on a speaker output line. I have found that the easiest way to track these down is to first disable the protect circuit.
Go to the amp board and look for harness connector CP11. It should be around the middle of the board. Locate pin 8, the board should be marked O/L-DET. Leave enough excess wire to connect back together later and cut this wire, (just like defusing a bomb, lol. See if the receiver will now stay on when powered up and let me know. DO NOT connect any speakers at this time. They will possibly be damaged.

sorry for disappearing been tied up with a few other projects. i located cp11 located pin 8 which indeed was labeled o/l-det snipped the wire, hooked the boards i removed to get to it back up, and hit the power..... and still doing the same thing . what should i try next? and should i fix the wire first?

ok i unhooked the hdmi and analogue boards unhooked cp 11 then attempted a power on it now cuts off immediately but now theres a red led flashing in the front on the ipod iphone setting. so im guessing thats the system telling me where the problem is? or is that too easy of an assumption? anyway thanks alot for the help with out your help im not sure i woulda tried any of these things myself.

Ok. So CP11 is still fully connected and just the wire for pin 8 is cut. I'm also assuming there are no blinking leds. If both correct then here is next test.
DMM on DC voltage, neg probe in 1 of the speaker output neg connectors. Turn on receiver. With pos probe, go to CP11 and test each of the remaining 7 pins looking to see if there is any voltage on any of them. Do not disconnect CP11. Just try to stick your probe down in the connect but try to be sure you are contacting metal. Or test on the back side of the board at the connector pins if it is accessible.
Also test both ends of the cut pin 8 wire again and see what voltage it has on each side and let me know..

i set my dmm to 2000m and pins 1-7 showed 1mv. pin 8 which is cut showed no voltage from the cp11 end. when the dmm is set to 20 i get no reading which is why i dropped it to the lower setting. but when i tested the othe side of the pin 8 wire (leading from the main board) i get a reading of 0v and when set on the higher setting i get a reading of 0 volts. hopefully i described it better this time. but the pin 8 wire seems to be the only one giving an abnormal reading.
