that whole row on the bottom is all pretty consistant. There are two different numbers and they alternate every other one. But each one is pretty spot on with the same ones.

Ok. So is it back together now? Did you remove that jumper or is it still in place?

It's still all together excep the two av boards and the upper amp board. Jumper still in place

What 2 buttons are you pressing to try to get it out of protection?

Standard and dsp buttons. Seems to work since that is the only time I get any kind of response. The relays click and the whole front panel flashes. LEDs and lcd

Is the red standby led flashing?

yes. As soon as I apply power it's in protection mode. If I press the standby button it stops flashing. but pressing it again just makes it flash. Never even attempts to turn on. If I try the reset, then I get the relays to click and the entire front of the unit starts to flash. As soon as I let go of the buttons, it goes right back to protection. That reset procedure is the only time I every here any relays. Even when I plug in the power cord there is no noise, just a flashing red light.

that's why I think the power supply. Seems like every where I read about issues with the amp section, it seems the unit will turn on for a few seconds and then turn off. I'm not getting that turn on step. that test you had me do before looked like my 5v + and - are low. Only 2.5 volts question is, what does the reset bypass that makes the relays click and turn things on

Is it flashing 0nce per second or around 4 times per second?

Even applying • The AVR-2809CI amplifier circuit • Switch off the power and please - power, the power has failed. contact the DENON service display flashes adviser. red at intervals of approximately 0.5 seconds.
I did just find the operating manual and it had that in the troubleshooting section.

more like 4 It's a fast flash. definetally not 1 per second

4 flash per sec is definitely ASO/DC protection.
Don't worry about looking for manuals. I am looking at your service manual as I give you instructions.
I'm checking something now to give you your next test. Give me a few minutes.

Ok, since we have verified there is a protection problem we must first verify there are the proper voltages for the system to work. I believe you indicated you know how to read schematics so I am attaching one for your next tests. All tests are DC voltage. Verify the proper voltage output of each regulator in the picture. There are (2) +12v, (2) -12v and (1) +9v. First test F701 and F702 with unit unplugged and DMM on diode to check for short. With that jumper in place just plugging it in will power these circuits providing you have all the power transformer wires connected. I'm off for tonight so I will check back tomorrow and see how you made out.

basic understanding I should say. I get the voltages to measure on the schematic. But where am I in the unit? I'm not seeing F701 or F702 and I can't figure out where that schematic is lining up on the chassis? I can't seem to match any resitors or anything up.

I think I found a couple of spots on the bottom mainboard, so I'm assuming that's where I'm going to be testing these points? If so do I have to remove the lower a/v board again and can I power the unit with that removed in order to get down in there? Or is there another spot to look for these voltages? I don't want to pull out too much and fire it up to have it literly fire up. lol. The two fuses F701 and F702 are shorted but they are fuses? shouldn't they be shorted and not open.
