Sorry morris. I don't understand why is not recognizing the nand. I have picked up a TX-NR838(just arrived) with no video and audio. There are question marks at the end of the firmware version. Both DSPs are D version. What could be? Corrupted firmware, or DSP need soldering? Morris, where are you located? Most likely in UK, since I see a silver Onkyo. We don't get that color around here(US). Todd, what could I try with Flashcat? It has to be set at 3.3V, right?

yes. The flashcat should be set for 3.3V. Also:
Under "MODE", set to "PARALLEL Flash (NOR/NAND)" Under "MODE", under "PROTOCOL SETTINGS", set the MAIN/SPARE area to "COMBINED"
On the NR838 I would be looking for a voltage issue on the 3.3V line. Both the HDMI and DSP subsystems use 3.3V so this is the most obvious place to check. I rarely see firmware issues on the NR838 but I have seen cracked solderballs. I know that you don't like to remove the DSP chips so I would suggest a reflow. Simply lay some no clean flux around one edge and then use your wand to heat that side while you tilt the board up so that the flux can flow through all the pins. Then, lay the board flat and heat the chip up for at least 1 min and 30 seconds at a wand temp of 435 degrees celsius.
The pin that usually breaks is B1 so make sure to heat the bottom left of the chip a little more than the rest.
HTH Todd

I have updated the firmware and it went through. Question marks are still there. I will measure the 3.3V first. Thanks Todd, for helping so fast.

By the way, which DSP? Both of them?

You know what I have noticed? At all four coils, voltages are fluctuating a bit. The biggest thing that I have noticed, with the thermal camera is, that Q8302(SI HDMI) IC is getting very hot(~143F=62C). It could be shorted. I'm checking now the service manual, to see where should I measure voltages. But most likely the question marks, are not from this IC.

I don't sorry, I'm only dealing with TX-NR, or TX-RZ units. I don't know where it is Tjmotter, I haven't heard from him for a while, I hope he is OK.

Hello, I have a receiver Onkyo 818 without sound when I select multichanel. The receiver works on Zone 2 and Zone 3 but I have an DSP error. You can see the error on the picture from the attachment. Recently I maded reball to the CI DSP D830K013BZKB4. Unfourtnally I have the same error. Can you help me with some information about this error? Do you think that this error can be solved if I will rewrite the soft Q3401 IC(DSP2) W25Q16CVSSIG? Thank you!

Either the new chip isn't bonded properly to the board or the firmware has been damaged. You should review the threads on Firmware to understand how to fix this.

Hello,
Thanks for your answer. After reball i deciced to not change the DSP with one that I have bought from Aliexpress. I would like to change the Q3401 IC(DSP2) W25Q16CVSSIG to a new one and to make an update to the firmware. Can you help me with a firmware for Onkyo NR818?
Thanks Marius

The problem with DSP1 firmware is that it is too big to email. This means finding a copy on a sharing site. I would recommend you attempt the process that this user created since it doesn't require anyone to try to find a place to post this and it ensures that you can install the firmware even if the NAND you are using has bad blocks. I suspect he would be happy to walk you through the process he used. The user is: geduxaz and he posted in this thread: repairalmostanything.com/thread/831/tx-nr656-stuck-update-fails?page=2Just fixed mine!!! Totaly same 0-81. It means usb not started and cant do usb/net update (linux not booting up). I managed to boot into UBOOT and reflash nand with images from decoded oficial firmware. It took 2 weeks in evenings to lear nand programming/ uboot/ uboot env.
